Platforms and Crossplay

Battlefield 6 is on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, EA app and Epic Games Store), with crossplay across all of them on by default. There is no PS4, Xbox One, Switch 2, Steam Deck or Linux version, and PC players cannot turn crossplay off.

Battlefield 6 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, where it is sold on Steam, the EA app and the Epic Games Store, and all of them play together through crossplay. Digital Foundry found the versions close: the Xbox Series X matches the PS5 in settings, resolution and frame rate, the PS5 Pro adds sharper upscaling and better lighting, and the Series S runs one cut-back 60 frames per second mode. The game skipped last-generation consoles entirely, and there is no Nintendo, Steam Deck or Linux version as of Nov 8, 2026. The free battle royale REDSEC is on the same three platforms.

Which version should you play?

Our table sets the platforms side by side from Digital Foundry's measurements and EA's store notes. Details on modes and settings are on Best Settings and Performance.

Platform Modes Multiplayer frame rate (DF) Notes
PS5 Balanced (60 fps), Performance 60 locked; about 80 average in Performance with VRR Near 1440p in Balanced, FSR upscaling
PS5 Pro Balanced, Performance 60 locked; near 100 in Performance with VRR PSSR upscaling, sharper image, SSGI lighting in Balanced
Xbox Series X Balanced, Performance 60 locked; a little above PS5 in Performance Matches PS5 in settings and resolution
Xbox Series S One 60 fps mode 60, with more dropped frames Lower shadows, no screen space reflections, blurrier textures, about 1080p output
PC Over 600 settings, uncapped Depends on hardware DLSS 4, FSR, XeSS, Reflex; Secure Boot required

The PS5 Pro is the best console version. In Balanced mode it swaps the base PS5's ambient occlusion for the PC version's SSGI, avoiding dark halos around objects, and uses Sony's PSSR upscaler for a "more 4K like" image where the PS5 uses FSR, though its internal resolution is about the same. Digital Foundry measured it as "basically a locked 60fps".

The Xbox Series S gets one mode with a 60 frames per second target and cuts nearly everything else: lower-resolution and chunkier shadows, no shadows from the player's flashlight, no screen space reflections, simpler global illumination and blurrier textures. EA lists a 1080p output, but DF found the internal resolution lower. DF still called it reasonable "for a Series S game".

In multiplayer, where it matters most, every console held a locked 60 frames per second "the vast majority of the time" in its 60 Hz mode, with no rubber banding in 64-player matches. On a 120 Hz VRR display the performance modes averaged about 80 on PS5 in 64-player play on Manhattan Bridge, a little higher on Series X, and close to 100 on PS5 Pro. We think that makes Battlefield 6 one of the rare big shooters where the console choice barely matters: anyone with a PS5 or Series X plays the same game, and only Series S owners give up visibly in image quality.

PC: Steam, EA app or Epic?

All three PC stores sell the same game, with the same updates, and all of them run it through the EA app and an EA account: on Steam you must link your EA and Steam accounts, and Steam's page lists the kernel-level EA Javelin anti-cheat with "Boot Protection - Requires both Secure Boot & TPM 2.0". The game was on Steam natively from day one, and EA's PC features post promised uncapped frame rates, 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide support, DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, Reflex, DLAA, FSR and XeSS.

The PC catch is Secure Boot. IGN explains it as a setting that checks for malicious programs that load before Windows does, which EA requires to keep cheats out. A PC that cannot run Windows in UEFI mode with Secure Boot on cannot play at all. The specs, the steps to turn Secure Boot on and the errors players hit are on PC Requirements and Anti-Cheat.

Is Battlefield 6 on Steam Deck, Switch 2 or last-gen consoles?

No to all of them, as of Nov 8, 2026:

  • Steam Deck and Linux: not supported. Javelin works at the kernel level of Windows, which Proton cannot provide, TechSpot reported in Aug 2025, and EA's studio head said it would not run on Steam Deck.
  • Switch 2: Vince Zampella said in Aug 2025 that EA "doesn't currently" plan a version, while calling himself a "huge Switch fan", GamesRadar reported.
  • PS4 and Xbox One: never announced; the game was built for current hardware only.
  • Cloud: Xbox Cloud Gaming carries it through Game Pass Ultimate since Oct 13, 2026, which is the one way to play on hardware that cannot run it.

We think a Switch 2 version stays unlikely for as long as Battlefield 6 is supported: the game's selling point is 64-player battles at 60 frames per second, which even the Series S only reaches with heavy cuts.

How does crossplay work?

Crossplay connects PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players in one pool, on by default, and matchmaking tries to group console players with console players first. What the toggle does depends on the platform:

Crossplay on Crossplay off
PS5 PS5, Xbox and PC players, console players preferred PS5 players only
Xbox Series X|S PS5, Xbox and PC players, console players preferred Xbox players only
PC Everyone Not possible

Turning crossplay off on a console does not give a "console-only" pool of PS5 and Xbox players together. A developer said in a Sep 2025 interview that it would, and EA then corrected it: there is no console-only option, MP1st reported, so turning it off means playing only with your own platform. For PC, EA's Oct 21, 2026 community update said an option to turn crossplay off is "not planned".

The input question matters more than the platform. jackfrags pointed out in his Oct 27, 2025 tips video that guns have lower recoil, spread and bloom with a controller than with a mouse, so plugging a controller into a PC brings those more forgiving stats along. EA later reduced the controller's recoil compensation from 11% to 5% in Game Update 2.1.1.0 on Oct 12, 2026, narrowing the gap. We think the lack of a PC opt-out matters less than console players fear: matchmaking favors console lobbies, and the controller's aim assistance and recoil help are built in on purpose to keep the two inputs even.

Accounts and REDSEC

Every version needs an EA account linked to the platform's own account, and Steam's page adds that a persistent internet connection is required to play. Progress and purchases belong to that EA account. This viki has found no official EA statement on moving Battlefield Coins between platforms, so we state no rule for it here.

REDSEC follows the same rules: free on all three platforms since Oct 28, 2025, with crossplay, and sharing guns, classes and progression with the paid game. Enders describes it as "the free-to-play entry to Battlefield 6", which is why it plays and feels the same as multiplayer on every platform.

Frequently asked questions

Is Battlefield 6 cross-platform?

Yes. Battlefield 6 has crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, on by default.

Can you turn off crossplay in Battlefield 6?

On PS5 and Xbox, yes, which limits matches to your own console family. On PC, no: EA said on Oct 21, 2026 that a PC crossplay toggle is not planned.

Is there console-only crossplay in Battlefield 6?

No. Battlefield 6 has no option to play with PS5 and Xbox players while excluding PC; console players are only grouped together first by matchmaking.

Is Battlefield 6 on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. Battlefield 6 is only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Can you play Battlefield 6 on Steam Deck?

No. Battlefield 6 does not run on Steam Deck or Linux, because its Javelin anti-cheat needs Windows with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0.

Is Battlefield 6 on Switch 2?

No. EA said in Aug 2025 that it does not currently plan a Switch 2 version, and nothing had changed as of Nov 8, 2026.
