Battlefield 6 came out on Oct 10, 2025 at 15:00 UTC (8 a.m. PT) on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, at the same moment worldwide. It was revealed on Jul 24, 2025, shown in multiplayer on Jul 31, and tested in an open beta over two weekends in August 2025.
Battlefield 6 was released on Friday, Oct 10, 2025 at 8 a.m. PT, 15:00 UTC, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, EA app and Epic Games Store), unlocking at the same moment in every country with no early start by time zone. It was the biggest launch in the series: EA reported over 7 million copies sold in three days, and Steam peaked at 747,440 concurrent players on launch day. Enders, a daily Battlefield player, remembers it as the moment when "everyone's playing Battlefield 6", on Twitch and on friends lists alike. This page covers the road from the reveal to launch day; what came after is on Seasons.

When was Battlefield 6 revealed?
EA premiered the reveal trailer on Jul 24, 2025, calling it "the world's first full look" at the game. It introduced the enemy, Pax Armata, a private military corporation funded by former NATO states with the motto "Our Protection, Your Peace", and confirmed that a single-player Campaign was back. The same post named the four studios of Battlefield Studios (DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect and Criterion) and set a multiplayer reveal for Jul 31, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. PDT, with play events in Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, London and Hong Kong.
The release date itself came a week later. At the Jul 31 multiplayer reveal, GamesBeat reported, EA confirmed Oct 10, 2025, showed the four returning Classes, squads of four, drag-and-revive and weapon mounting, the new Escalation mode and the return of Portal, named the Javelin anti-cheat, and priced the game at $70 Standard and $100 for the Phantom Edition. Pre-orders opened the same day.
The open beta
The open beta ran over two weekends in August 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam, Epic and the EA app. On PC, Secure Boot was already required, the first sign of the anti-cheat rules covered on PC Requirements and Anti-Cheat.

The beta is where the hype was made. Enders recalls it showcasing Siege of Cairo and Liberation Peak, "still some of the best maps in Battlefield 6" a year later, and drawing unusually positive reactions for a Battlefield test. On Steam it peaked at 521,079 concurrent players, per SteamDB as Kotaku reported on Aug 11, 2025: higher than any Battlefield before and above the best Steam peak Call of Duty had ever reached, 491,670. EA called it "Battlefield's biggest Open Beta ever" without giving a total.
Was the beta better than the final game? A common claim later on was that it was. Enders, who played both, disagrees: in his view the beta was "over 95% similar" to the release, with differences in small areas, and it already had the core issues the full game kept. We think that is the fairer reading too: the beta's short weekends on a few strong maps simply hid how the game would feel over months, which is why the drop in players through the winter (on Steam Player Count) surprised so many.
What time did Battlefield 6 launch?
EA chose one global moment, 8 a.m. PT on Oct 10, 2025, rather than a midnight rollout by region. The table converts 15:00 UTC for the main regions (our conversion; press reported the same US and UK times).
| Region | Local launch time |
|---|---|
| US West (PDT) | Oct 10, 8 a.m. |
| US East (EDT) | Oct 10, 11 a.m. |
| UK (BST) | Oct 10, 4 p.m. |
| Central Europe (CEST) | Oct 10, 5 p.m. |
| Gulf (GST) | Oct 10, 7 p.m. |
| India (IST) | Oct 10, 8:30 p.m. |
| Japan (JST) | Oct 11, midnight |
| Sydney (AEDT) | Oct 11, 2 a.m. |
EA warned that a required patch would go out before launch, and that players with automatic updates off should download it by hand. The install itself was large: EA listed 55 GB for the minimum PC setup and 90 GB on an SSD for the higher tiers at launch, and on consoles Digital Foundry found the optional HD content packs add 20 to 30 GB (Best Settings and Performance).
How did the launch go?
Reviews came in around launch, and some had to be written on near-empty servers. Digital Foundry's PS5 review, published Oct 9, 2025, says it played mostly against bots before release because the servers had very few people, could not try Portal, and noted that the battle royale was "not making launch". Critics settled at an OpenCritic 83 (Reception and Reviews), with the Campaign scored well below the multiplayer.
The servers held on launch day. gameranx's Jake Baldino, who waited to publish his "Before You Buy" on Oct 10 until he had played on the live servers, said he was getting matches with no problem, while warning that the launch weekend could still change that. EA's Oct 16, 2025 release counted over 172 million online matches in the first days and the most concurrent players in Battlefield history.
The launch was not clean, though. Enders lists bugs in visibility, gunplay, maps and gadgets, the worst a recon drone exploit that let players reach rooftops that were meant to be out of bounds and break some maps, and players soon complained that the solo experience was rough. Digital Foundry's PC review found many visual bugs and said the game "needed more time in the oven". DICE's first patches through October are on Seasons.
What was in Battlefield 6 at launch?
At launch the game had nine maps in five "Theaters of War" with 25 Combat Zones cut for different modes, eight modes plus Portal, 45 guns and the campaign. IGN's reviewer singled out the new Escalation mode, whose control points close one by one as the match goes on, and called the nine maps "generally strong", from the close streets of Saints Quarter to the huge, vehicle-filled Operation Firestorm.
| Theater | Launch maps |
|---|---|
| Cairo, Egypt | Siege of Cairo, New Sobek City |
| Gibraltar | Iberian Offensive, Saints Quarter (infantry only) |
| Tajikistan | Mirak Valley (largest at launch), Liberation Peak |
| Brooklyn, New York | Manhattan Bridge, Empire State (infantry only) |
| Legacy | Operation Firestorm (Battlefield 3's map, remade) |
The modes were Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush and Escalation for all-out warfare, and Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill (Infantry Modes). EA's launch release promised that "all gameplay-impacting features will be free or earnable". The campaign's nine missions are on Campaign Missions.
There was no battle pass on day one. Espresso's buyer's guide, made two weeks before launch, expected the first battle pass with Season 1 around Oct 28, and EA confirmed that date in its launch release: Season 1 (Rogue Ops, with the Blackwell Fields map) began on Oct 28, 2025, and the free battle royale REDSEC came out the same day, 18 days after launch.
What we think
We think Battlefield 6's launch timing was as important as the game: it came out about five weeks before Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and with no GTA 6 that fall, a window Enders also calls perfect, and its beta beat Call of Duty's Steam record before a copy was sold. We think EA will repeat the formula for the next Battlefield, a large open beta two months ahead and a single worldwide unlock time, because both worked here. Our predictions for the game's own future are on Predictions.
