Battlefield 6 costs $69.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Game of the Year Edition on Steam in the US, read on Nov 8, 2026, and it is also part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass since Oct 13, 2026. The Standard Edition is the whole game: the nine-mission Campaign, all multiplayer Maps and Game Modes, and Portal, as Espresso laid out in his buyer's guide before launch. Every map, mode and season since has been a free update, and gear that affects play can be earned in-game. The paid extras are cosmetics, XP boosts and the season's Battlefield Pro pass (Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro). REDSEC, the battle royale, needs no purchase at all.

The Steam listing names the Phantom Pack's items: the Crossbones, Mirage, Specter and Wraith soldier skins, the "Glimmer" knife skin, the "Shrouded" M433 and "Drop Shadow" M2010 ESR weapon packages, the "Chimera" skin for the NATO M1A2 SEPv3 tank, a sticker, a charm, a dog tag, and Career and Hardware XP boosts of 30 and 60 minutes. The Ultimate Shortcut Kit is four class kits with a dog tag and a title.
The Standard Edition and the pre-order bonus
Anyone who bought before Oct 10, 2025 got the Tombstone Pack with either edition. Espresso's guide lists it as the Gravedigger soldier skin, the Hatchet weapon package, the Bandolier weapon charm, the Fallen Heroes player card, a soldier patch, a weapon sticker and the Tombstone XP boost set, and it was not granted to later buyers. Press lists of the pack differ in small details. Since then, the Standard Edition's only add-on bonus has been the BF Vets offer for EA accounts that own an earlier Battlefield, valid until Oct 10, 2027.
Was the Phantom Edition worth it?
The Phantom Edition was the deluxe edition at launch, $30 more than Standard. Espresso called the jump "kind of a steep increase" and broke it down: the Phantom Squad skins in black with gray and red hexagons, two weapon packages in the same style, the Chimera vehicle skin and extra XP boosts, all available on day one.
His case for it rested on the Battlefield Pro token: the Season 1 battle pass plus 25 tier skips. At Battlefield 2042's price of $1.50 a tier, 25 skips alone would cost $37.50, more than the $30 difference, before counting the cosmetics. That math held only for players who were going to buy the Season 1 pass anyway. The current price of Battlefield Pro and how the pass works are on Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro.
The Game of the Year Edition
EA launched the Game of the Year Edition on Oct 13, 2026, the day Season 5 started. When it was announced, DANNYonPC reported it at 100 euros with an upgrade of about 30 euros for existing owners, and guessed it would bundle Year 1's extras; it does bundle the Phantom Pack, adds the Ultimate Shortcut Kit, one Battlefield Pro token and the "Trusted Reserve" skin. On Steam in the US it costs $99.99, the same as the Phantom Edition did. Steam's description of it counts "20 maps", "70+ weapons" and 700,000 Portal experiences as of Oct 5, 2026.
We think the Ultimate Shortcut Kit is the real reason to pay for the GOTY Edition in late 2026, and the reason to hesitate. It skips the slowest part of the game, which IGN and gameranx both criticized at launch (Progression and Unlocks), so a new player gets the full arsenal on day one. But that unlock grind is also how players learn each gun, and a returning player who already owns the base game gains little from it. For most new players we think the Standard Edition, on sale or through Game Pass, is the better buy, with a Battlefield Pro season bought later only if the game sticks.
Game Pass, EA Play and free trials
Battlefield 6 joined Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on Oct 13, 2026, a year after launch, with cloud play on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Kotaku called it "the best-selling game of 2025" arriving on the service; Windows Central noted it landed days before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The subscription includes the base game, not the GOTY Edition, so its extras are paid separately. Our guide to which platforms carry the subscription is on Platforms and Crossplay.
EA Play is EA's own subscription. At launch EA Play members got 10% off the digital game and an EA Play Deployment Pack, and the EA Play Pro tier, which Espresso priced at $16.99 a month in Sep 2025, included the base game on PC. Steam sells EA Play beside the game.
Espresso's warning about subscriptions still applies: it is "essentially renting Battlefield 6". Access ends when the subscription does, and at $16.99 a month EA Play Pro passes the price of the Standard Edition in a little over four months. Our math for Game Pass is the same in shape: a subscriber who already pays for it gets the game at no extra cost, while someone who subscribes only for Battlefield 6 would match the $69.99 price within a few months.
EA also runs free trials of the full game, time-limited and once per EA account. The latest was Oct 15 to 19, 2026 on PlayStation and Steam with all maps and modes, after earlier trials in late November 2025, announced by EA on Nov 25, 2025, and on Jun 9 to 15, 2026.
What do you pay for after buying?
Nothing that changes the fight, according to EA's launch promise that "all gameplay-impacting features will be free or earnable". Maps, modes, guns and seasons have all been free updates. The money is in Battlefield Coins (sold in five bundles on Steam), the store's cosmetics and the seasonal Battlefield Pro, which on Steam is a DLC ("Season 5 Battlefield Pro") as of Nov 8, 2026. At launch gameranx found "nothing feels annoying or cynical from a monetization sense"; within weeks Season 1's cosmetics drew a backlash, covered on Season 1 and Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro.
Is the base game worth $69.99? Jake Baldino bought his own copy beside the review code and expected to get his money's worth from the multiplayer alone, while not liking the campaign at all. We agree with that split: Battlefield 6 is priced as a full game, but almost all of its value is the multiplayer, so anyone who only wants the Campaign would do better with a free trial, Game Pass or a sale.
