LMGs
Battlefield 6 has 11 light machine guns as of Nov 8, 2026 (Season 5), the Support class's signature weapon, with the newest, the belt-fed Z84M, added on Oct 13, 2026. Creators in Oct 2026 still rate the launch DRS-IAR the best all-rounder and split on whether the Z84M is a close-range monster or a gimmick.
Battlefield 6 has 11 light machine guns as of Nov 8, 2026: the nine on EA's loadout page, the launch RPKM that page leaves out, and the Z84M, a belt-fed 100-round LMG that Season 5 added on Oct 13, 2026. LMGs are the Support class's signature weapon, the guns with the biggest magazines, built for suppressing fire. A year after launch, the creator view in late Oct 2026 is that the launch DRS-IAR is still the safest pick, "literally a jack-of-all-trades" in Maxiq's words, while the Z84M is the best of them up close if you can hold its recoil. Every other gun is on Weapons.

The RPKM, an LMG on the launch lists and third in Dexerto's Nov 18, 2025 ranking, is not on EA's Jul 21, 2026 loadout page, yet creators still compare it in Jun and Oct 2026 videos, so we count it; EA had not explained the omission as of Nov 8, 2026. See Weapons for the count.

How LMGs fit the Support
The Support's signature-weapon bonus lets it sprint with an LMG at full speed (EA, Apr 9, 2026), which removes the old penalty for carrying a heavy gun. In Closed Weapon playlists only Support may use an LMG; in Open Weapon playlists anyone can. With a bipod or a mounted position on a ledge, an LMG holds a lane steady, covered on Movement, Squads and Revives. More on the class is on Support.
The DRS-IAR, still the benchmark
The DRS-IAR has topped LMG talk since launch. TheGamer ranked it the best gun in the game in Dec 2025, and WhosImmortal says in his Oct 15, 2026 Season 5 list that it has "been a beast since the start of the game" and is "feeling great here in season 5": laser accurate when tap firing at range, quick to kill in nearly every situation.
His mid-to-long-range build: a ROM 1.75x scope, violet laser, the Hybrid Suppressor L, a heavy extended barrel, a slim angled grip, the basic 30-round magazine and lightweight ammunition. He takes the L hybrid over the pricier hybrids because 40 or 50 points for one muzzle "is just so much". The flash hider, he says, is a fair swap if you do not mind showing on the radar.
The Z84M: monster or gimmick?
The new LMG divides the same two creators. WhosImmortal says the Z84M made his top ten only because he always covers new guns: over range, "if you're spraying and praying, you've got no hope", and up close "you might as well stick with a sub". His build keeps the basic 100-round belt, a heavy barrel and lightweight ammunition, and he calls the gun "a little bit more gimmicky" overall.
Maxiq, in his Oct 25, 2026 rundown, rates it the opposite way: one of the best LMGs, "if not the best LMG for aggressive players", and the best LMG up close. Its recoil is hard to control, he says, but it kills in three shots with a 100-round belt.
We think both are right about different modes. EA describes the Z84M as built for close range, so it shines on infantry maps such as Empire State, Cairo Bazaar or the European Casino arriving Nov 10, and struggles on Mirak Valley or Railway to Golmud, where the DRS-IAR's accuracy pays. We expect it to be the most used new LMG of Season 5 in infantry playlists and a rare sight in Conquest.
The rest of the class
Maxiq sorts the others by play style: the L110 as a comfortable, defensive starter; the M123K and M121 A2 for aggressive play, the M121 A2 hard to use but among the fastest killers of the class; the RPK-74M and KTS100 Mk8 for long range; and the M240L as another aggressive three-shot-kill gun with a 75-round magazine that takes a 100-round option. The two he would avoid are the M250 and M/60: the M250 needs four chest shots at any range and is hard to control, and the M/60, though a three-shot kill, is outdone by guns with more fire rate and the same control.
Long range: RPK-74M, KTS100 Mk8 and RPKM
The long-range LMGs are where the gun's best range matters more than its fastest kill. zen3D's Jun 4, 2026 weapon guide compares the RPK-74M with the KTS100 Mk8 and the RPKM: the RPKM kills fastest up close, the KTS100 Mk8 falls off at 21 meters, and past 75 meters the RPK-74M becomes the fastest killer of the three. His conclusion is that the RPK-74M is a long-range control gun from about 40 meters out, not a close-range one, even though its quickest kills are inside 20 meters.
We think this is the most useful way to choose among LMGs: the DRS-IAR for everything, the Z84M for rooms and corridors, and the RPK-74M for holding a long lane from a bipod on the big Conquest maps.
How patches changed LMGs
Update 1.1.3.0 (Dec 5, 2025) cut the 200-round magazines of the L110 and M123K from 55 to 50 attachment points. Season 3's 1.3.1.0 gave every automatic weapon more recoil, and 1.3.3.0 (Jun 30, 2026) added bullet drag and cut limb damage. Season 5's 2.1.1.0 made the 5.56 mm LMGs (KTS100 Mk8, M123K, L110) and the RPK-74M need one more bullet against REDSEC armor past 46 m, and stopped the SU-230 LPVO from cutting visual recoil on the M123K, M250 and M121 A2. EA's Nov 2, 2026 update promises new magazine sizes and feeds for some LMGs on Nov 10, without naming them.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best LMG in Battlefield 6?
As of late Oct 2026, the DRS-IAR is the one both creators cited here rate highly; Maxiq adds the Z84M for close range. Dexerto's last ranking (Nov 18, 2025) had the L110 first.
Is the Z84M good?
Up close, yes, in Maxiq's view (Oct 25, 2026); WhosImmortal (Oct 15, 2026) finds it weak at range and calls it a gimmick for an LMG.
Which LMG has the biggest magazine?
The L110 and M123K can take a 200-round belt, at 50 attachment points since Dec 5, 2025.
Can other classes use LMGs?
Only in Open Weapon playlists. In Closed Weapon playlists they belong to Support.

Empire StateEmpire State is an infantry-only Battlefield 6 launch map in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, built from alleys, rooftops, two towers joined by a sky bridge and a tennis court. Its winter version, Ice Lock Empire State, ran as a limited-time map from Dec 9, 2025.

Cairo BazaarCairo Bazaar is Battlefield 6's remake of Battlefield 3's Grand Bazaar, a mirrored close-quarters city block in Cairo added on Jun 9, 2026 with Season 3's Blastpoint phase. Mirak ValleyMirak Valley is the largest of Battlefield 6's launch maps, a war-torn valley in Tajikistan with every type of vehicle, trenches, a river and a construction site whose crane can be brought down. Since Season 5 it is also one of REDSEC's Rapid Royale maps.
