Empire State
Empire State is an infantry-only Battlefield 6 launch map in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, built from alleys, rooftops, two towers joined by a sky bridge and a tennis court. Its winter version, Ice Lock Empire State, ran as a limited-time map from Dec 9, 2025.
Empire State is an infantry-only Battlefield 6 map of "explosive engagements spanning alleys, rooftops" and the "iconic streets of Brooklyn, New York". Its Conquest Combat Zone is Columbia. It joined the open beta's second weekend in Aug 2025, and GravityBFTV's beta analysis (Aug 18, 2025) called it one of the most anticipated maps of the game: a fairly small map, with no vehicles at all, closer to Battlefield 3's Epicenter than to the large maps. It shares the Brooklyn theater with Manhattan Bridge, and in winter 2025 it got a frozen variant, Ice Lock Empire State.

Where is the Empire State Building?
It is not on the map. Xenoseth's design breakdown (Jan 30, 2026) asked the question many players did: he expected at least part of the real building and found Brooklyn streets instead. The name is a nod to New York, "the Empire State"; the map is a Brooklyn neighborhood.
Layout
Many buildings can be entered, though some are only a storefront or a staircase. Two high-rises, the Summit Center and a construction site, rise two or three stories, and a sky bridge between them can be shot or blown down into the street below.
The B and D flags sit at those towers, with the others at a basketball court and a courtyard, all close enough that combat never stops. With windows and balconies everywhere, expect to be shot in the back until you learn the map.
In his later review of every launch map (Feb 8, 2026), GravityBFTV named Empire State the map where the sheer number of routes hurts most: nearly every structure can be entered, often with a second floor, with sightlines in every direction.
Destruction and cover
Destruction is everywhere: walls and whole floors come apart, opening new entrances or traps, which reminded GravityBFTV of building sides falling on Seine Crossing. See Destruction.
The catch is clutter. Streets are so packed with objects that enemies are hard to see and doorways hard to find. Update 1.1.3.0 (Dec 5, 2025) also extended the rooftop out-of-bounds areas on Empire State, Manhattan Bridge and Saints Quarter.
Balance, spawns and objectives
Spawns are rough on a map this size, and the main bases are small and easy to camp: once one team holds every flag, the round is effectively over.
GravityBFTV found the objectives a letdown for New York (a plaza, a construction site, a basketball court) while a fire station, more tactical than any of them, plays no part in rounds.
In the beta he also saw a balance problem: Pax Armata spawns much closer to B than NATO does to D, so Pax reaches the multi-floor construction site first. Pax can retake E from the "almost hidden" tennis courts more easily than NATO can retake the cluttered basketball court, and holding D gives Pax an angle into NATO's deployment.
Rush and Breakthrough suffered most: sectors too small and grindy, M-COMs too close together, defenders too easily reinforced. Update 1.1.3.0 changed Breakthrough capture areas at B in sector 1 and at A and B in sector 2, and Breakthrough there has run with 48 players since mid-Nov 2025.
Tips
Own the tennis courts at E. AltoidBricks' guide (Nov 27, 2025) says the team holding them has the advantage. To come down fast, slide off the edge onto the dumpster and roll: you take no damage and surprise whoever is below.
Key spots. The stairs between D and C, the second floor above A (take the street-side stairs), the back corner of A, a common beacon spot, and the second floor between A and B, which cuts off pushes from C to B.
The waterfront outside D and E is good for picking off enemies and drawing two to five of them away from the objectives your team is taking.
Upper walkways. The raised platforms mid-map see the streets and early pushes. Take short peeks, get a kill, move: rotate between platforms before the enemy collapses on you.
- Weapons: SMGs and shotguns for the blitz, LMGs and DMRs to hold lanes. See SMGs and Best Loadouts.
- Beacons: hide them inside the central buildings, under stairwells or behind broken walls, not at the enemy headquarters. See Assault.
- Support: deployable cover holds a doorway. See Support.
Ice Lock Empire State
On Dec 9, 2025, Winter Offensive brought a limited-time wintry version of the map, Ice Lock Empire State, to Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, with Conquest and Domination variants built on a Freeze mechanic: without heat, the cold drains your health and stops it regenerating, while sprinting, Adrenaline Injectors and Heat Zones (including fire from Incendiary Grenades) fight it off. REDSEC's Gauntlet ran an Ice Lock version on it with three fixed missions, Deadlock, Extraction and Wreckage. The event's free reward path ended in the Ice Climbing Axe, a melee weapon EA says hits harder than the Sledgehammer and Combat Knife. Update 1.1.3.0 also made the frozen map available in Portal experiences during the event. The modes are covered on Limited-Time Modes and the event on Season 1.
How it plays
IGN's multiplayer review (Oct 16, 2025) named Empire State one of its favorites, for its mix of open roads, buildings to duck into and rooftops to snipe from.
GravityBFTV still called it a strong infantry map, but divisive. His closest comparison is Battlefield 3's Operation 925: a map that fits 64 players but "never shakes the feeling of a giant TDM match", where awareness, execution and luck decide fights.
What we think
We think Empire State is two maps: a great one for Domination and Conquest, where the constant fighting is the point, and a poor one for Rush and Breakthrough, where its tiny sectors turn into grinds. We expect Ice Lock to return in some form with the Freezeout event that EA lists beside Frozen Aces (from Dec 8, 2026), because the frozen map and its Freeze rules are already built; EA has not said what Freezeout contains as of Nov 8, 2026. In our view the Pax side's quicker route to B is still the map's biggest imbalance.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Empire State Building on the Empire State map?
No. The map is a set of Brooklyn streets; the name refers to New York, the Empire State.
Does Empire State have vehicles?
No. It is infantry-only, like Saints Quarter and the upcoming European Casino.
What was Ice Lock Empire State?
A limited-time winter version from Dec 9, 2025, with Conquest and Domination variants where the cold drains your health unless you find heat. See Limited-Time Modes.
Which objective is the most important?
Creators point to the tennis courts at E and the towers at B and D, because they give height over the streets.

DestructionBattlefield 6 uses tactical destruction: most walls, light buildings and cover break in pre-scored chunks under explosives, vehicles, sledgehammers or sustained fire, while metal frames and many ground floors stay up. Season 5 added set-piece collapses such as the Vegas Strip dome and sign, the Area 51 control tower and, from Nov 10, 2026, European Casino's tower.

Pax ArmataPax Armata is the private military company that fights NATO in Battlefield 6, bankrolled by a Coalition of states that left the alliance. It is the enemy of the campaign and one of the two factions in multiplayer, with its own vehicles, soldiers and carriers. -
RushRush is Battlefield 6's 12v12 attack-and-defend mode: attackers with limited lives arm pairs of M-COM stations that explode 30 seconds later, defenders with unlimited lives defuse them, and every destroyed pair moves the fight to the next sector. EA rebuilt every Rush layout after the beta and added Rush to Mirak Valley on Feb 17, 2026.
-
BreakthroughBreakthrough is Battlefield 6's attack-and-defend mode: attackers with a limited pool of lives must hold every flag of a sector at once to push the front line forward, and defenders with unlimited lives try to drain that pool. It launched at 64 players; since Nov 13, 2025 six maps run it at 48, with no EA statement.

SMGsBattlefield 6 has 11 submachine guns as of Nov 8, 2026 (Season 5), counting the new RSPR, which EA calls a PDW. They are the Engineer's signature weapon and fire faster than any other primary; in late Oct 2026 creators rated the SCW-10 and CZ3A1 the strongest, and EA is adding handling penalties to the SCW-10 and KV9 extended magazines on Nov 10.
