Rush
Rush is Battlefield 6's 12v12 attack-and-defend mode: attackers with limited lives arm pairs of M-COM stations that explode 30 seconds later, defenders with unlimited lives defuse them, and every destroyed pair moves the fight to the next sector. EA rebuilt every Rush layout after the beta and added Rush to Mirak Valley on Feb 17, 2026.
Rush is Battlefield 6's mid-sized attack-and-defend mode: the attackers must plant charges on Military Communication stations (M-COMs), which blow up 30 seconds after arming unless a defender disarms them, and when every M-COM in a sector is destroyed the fight moves on to the next. In EA's words the attackers "have a set number of lives" while the defenders have unlimited lives "but have a slightly longer respawn delay". The match ends when the last M-COM falls or the attackers run out of lives. In Battlefield 6 it is played 12v12, with two M-COMs per sector. EA Help's Rush 101, in the clip, lays it out: you are either an attacker or a defender, and only one sector is active at a time.

How Rush works
The attackers spawn at their headquarters with a pool of lives, and the defenders sit around two M-COM stations. An attacker arms an M-COM by holding the interact button at it; the charge detonates after 30 seconds by default. A defender can disarm it before then, but defusing "takes several seconds to perform, which exposes the Defender to Attackers". When both M-COMs of a sector are destroyed, the attackers' pool refills, the defenders fall back, and the next pair becomes live. Every Rush match is one round by default, so a player is either attacking or defending for the whole match.
The Assault's Signature Trait, Mission Focused, gives faster objective progress including arming and disarming M-COMs, which makes it the class to bring to the objective on both sides.
Why Rush is 12v12
Rush has been played 32v32 in recent Battlefield games, and Battlefield 6 went back to a smaller size. As TheGamer put it on launch day, it "scales things back to the Bad Company days, limiting team sizes to 12 players each", which made Rush "perhaps the most controversial mode in Battlefield 6". The same size went into the August 2025 open beta, where creators criticized Rush's M-COM placement and its maps. GravityBFTV's Aug 18, 2025 beta review, in the clip, says Empire State's Rush sectors were "overly small and grindy", with M-COMs placed too close together and defenders able to reinforce too easily. EA's answer came on the day-one patch: 1.0.1.0 updated "All Rush layouts" based on open beta feedback, "to deliver a better balance between Attackers and Defenders".
We think 12v12 was right for Battlefield 6's maps and wrong for its reputation. The launch maps are smaller than Battlefield 4's or Battlefield 1's, and 64 players around two M-COMs in Siege of Cairo would be a grenade spam. But Rush players remember the big 32v32 rounds, and calling the mode Rush set those expectations. In our view a larger "Rush 64" variant on the biggest maps, Mirak Valley, Railway to Golmud and Tsuru Reef, would answer most of the complaints, and Portal's Verified Rush already lets a host try it.
Changes since launch
| Date | Update | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 9, 2025 | 1.0.1.0 | All Rush layouts updated after open beta feedback |
| Dec 9, 2025 | 1.1.3.0, Winter Offensive | Rush layouts on several maps rebalanced for attackers and defenders; M-COMs moved on Manhattan Bridge and Liberation Peak |
| Feb 17, 2026 | 1.2.1.0, Season 2 | Rush added to Mirak Valley |
Update 1.1.3.0 described its change as "Updated Breakthrough and Rush layouts on multiple maps to improve attacker-defender balance, smooth out sector flow, and adjust vehicle distribution". The M-COM moves on Manhattan Bridge and Liberation Peak came in the same Winter Offensive patch (Steam, Dec 3, 2025). Mirak Valley is the largest launch map, so its Rush is the first with long open approaches between sectors. Even after these changes, GravityBFTV's Feb 8, 2026 map design breakdown, in the clip, called Rush and Breakthrough "short grinds through three or four sectors" stacked tightly one after another.
Rush in Portal
Rush is one of the three Verified templates in Portal's web builder (with Conquest and Breakthrough), so a host can change the fuse time, the attacker lives, the player count and the maps and still award full progression. Bots returned to Verified Rush on Nov 6, 2025, up to 12 with rounds starting at eight players. More on Portal and Server Browser.
How to attack and defend
Arekkz Gaming's new player guide, in the clip, says flanking matters most in Rush and Breakthrough: do not always go through the front.
Attacking
- Arm both at once. Defenders cannot disarm two M-COMs at the same time. Split the team so both charges tick together.
- Bring smoke. The attacker arming the M-COM is exposed for the whole plant. Smoke grenades and the cover of Destruction matter more than a better gun.
- Guard the charge, not the kill feed. After arming, set up on the defenders' approach and kill the defuser; that is the real fight of Rush.
- Mind the lives. Every death drains a pool that only refills at the next sector. A Support reviving the planter saves the round.
EA's Rush 101, in the clip, adds two defender tools: an Engineer's EOD bot can disarm an armed M-COM while the team clears the area, and every access point to the M-COM should be guarded, because one defuse can save the sector.
Defending
- Do not crowd the M-COM. Defenders on the station give the attackers one target. Hold the routes in.
- Have an Assault ready to defuse. Mission Focused shortens the disarm; keep one near each station.
- Use your unlimited lives. You lose nothing by dying, so trade forward and push the attackers back toward their spawn.
What reviewers found
IGN's multiplayer review of Oct 16, 2025 liked the smaller Rush, calling it a mode focused on smaller groups that became one of its reviewer's favorites for its instant action and short matches, a good choice for sessions too short for a long tug-of-war. That is the case for 12v12: Rush in Battlefield 6 is the quick attack-and-defend mode, and Breakthrough is the big one.
Frequently asked questions
How many players are in Battlefield 6 Rush?
24, two teams of 12. Portal hosts can raise it in a Verified Rush experience.
How long is the M-COM timer?
30 seconds after arming, by EA's default setting.
Why is Rush only 12v12?
EA has not said. The smaller size matches Rush's origin in Battlefield: Bad Company and the smaller scale of Battlefield 6's maps; TheGamer called it the game's most controversial mode for it.
What is the difference between Rush and Breakthrough?
Rush is 12v12 around pairs of M-COM bombs; Breakthrough is up to 64 players capturing flags with vehicles. Both give the attackers limited lives and the defenders unlimited ones.
Which maps have Rush?
Most of the launch maps, with Mirak Valley added on Feb 17, 2026. EA publishes no single list of Rush maps; the modes per map are on Maps.
