Destruction
Battlefield 6 uses tactical destruction: most walls, light buildings and cover break in pre-scored chunks under explosives, vehicles, sledgehammers or sustained fire, while metal frames and many ground floors stay up. Season 5 added set-piece collapses such as the Vegas Strip dome and sign, the Area 51 control tower and, from Nov 10, 2026, European Casino's tower.
Battlefield 6's destruction is tactical: you can break walls with a sledgehammer or C4, drop floors with a rocket and drive tanks through buildings (EA's Battlefield 101, Oct 10, 2025), and EA says most walls, buildings and cover can be destroyed by vehicles, explosives or sustained gunfire (EA's new player guide, Oct 10, 2025). It is not a free-for-all. Digital Foundry's Oct 9, 2025 review explains that flat-faced, light-colored buildings come apart in pre-scored sections, and calls it "primarily a state-based destruction system and not a physics-based one." This page covers what breaks, what does not, each map's big set pieces and how to use it.
Quick facts
| System | Tactical, state-based destruction in pre-scored sections (Digital Foundry) |
| What breaks things | Explosives, launchers, tank shells, vehicles driven through, sledgehammers, sustained gunfire |
| What usually holds | Metal frames, many ground floors, some structural interior walls |
| Set pieces (Season 5) | Vegas Strip casino sign and Olympus dome, Area 51 control tower, European Casino tower (from Nov 10, 2026) |
| Older set piece | Operation Firestorm's burning tower, from Battlefield 3 |
| In Portal | Environmental destruction settings are on EA's backlog |

What can and cannot be destroyed
Digital Foundry's review sorts buildings into kinds. Metal-framed structures keep big indestructible parts: you can blow square chunks out of a storage building but not its frame. Some houses come down almost entirely as their supports go. Most small barriers and decorations can be blown up or driven through with enough force.
Others sit in between. Storefront facades collapse while the structural walls inside hold. On Iberian Offensive most upper floors can be blown out, but the ground floors, the ones that matter most for play, usually cannot. A wall on Manhattan Bridge has pillars that chip while the wall itself takes no damage.
| Breaks | Usually holds |
|---|---|
| Flat-faced, light-colored houses, often almost entirely | Metal frames of warehouses and storage buildings |
| Upper floors of many buildings | Ground floors on maps like Iberian Offensive |
| Storefront facades | Structural interior walls |
| Small barriers, cars, buses, props | Some decorative walls that only chip |
| Plaster and concrete walls (sledgehammer, explosives) | Bespoke campaign structures |

Digital Foundry found the system "isn't categorically different" from recent Battlefields, just more visually satisfying, with more debris, and that the game is more densely packed with destructible things than the last few entries, though Bad Company 2 is "probably still the all-time champ." The Campaign has less of it than multiplayer, because its buildings are more bespoke.
IGN's Oct 16, 2025 multiplayer review calls the maps' destructibility excellent: chunks of cement fall as bullets hit buildings, cars and buses explode, a grenade launcher erases cover in an instant, and a tank can crumble entire buildings in ways that change the terrain.
How to break things
Gunfire alone is enough for some walls. jackfrags pours rounds into one until it crumbles, and says few players knew that at launch. Most players use explosives:
- Launchers and grenade launchers. EA says Engineer launchers take down large structures (EA's Engineer page); Assault's High Explosive Launcher damages structures and its Breaching Projectile burrows through walls, doors and floors (Assault).
- C4. Recon's Demolition Charge drops a wall with one charge (Recon).
- Vehicles. Tank shells and driving through walls; EA suggests tanks against campers in buildings (Tanks and Ground Vehicles).
- The Sledgehammer. It damages soldiers, objects and vehicles, at the cost of slower swings and sprint (EA). In REDSEC, since Apr 14, 2026, plaster and concrete take two hits instead of four or more (EA).
The sledgehammer can damage and destroy any vehicle, even a tank, as a last resort, and it knocks chunks out of Support's Deployable Cover and the scenery to open firing positions the enemy does not expect.
Arekkz Gaming's guide adds vehicles as the tool for clearing buildings the enemy is camping in, up to bringing a building down completely.
Set pieces map by map
Battlefield 4 called its scripted collapses Levolution; EA uses the word again for European Casino. These are the big moments as of Nov 8, 2026; each map page has the detail.
| Map | Set piece | Since |
|---|---|---|
| Operation Firestorm | Purge valve at the base of the tallest tower burns anyone at the top, as in Battlefield 3 | Launch, Oct 10, 2025 |
| Mirak Valley | Crane: shoot its cement cylinder onto targets below, or its counterweight to bring it down | Launch |
| Cairo Bazaar | Walls between buildings open new routes and leave rubble cover | Blastpoint, Jun 9, 2026 |
| Wake Island | Destroying ammunition structures opens new routes | Top Gun, Aug 18, 2026 |
| Vegas Strip | Destructible casino sign and a collapsing Olympus dome | Season 5, Oct 13, 2026 |
| Area 51 | Aircraft Control Tower can be brought down | Season 5, Oct 13, 2026 |
| European Casino | A central tower over 120 meters tall collapses | Casino Heist, Nov 10, 2026 (upcoming) |
Sources: jackfrags' tips video (Firestorm, Mirak Valley), EA's Season 3 roadmap (May 8, 2026), EA's Wake Island guide (Aug 11, 2026), EA's Vegas Strip and Area 51 guide (Oct 9, 2026), EA's European Casino guide (Nov 5, 2026).
On Mirak Valley, jackfrags shoots the cement cylinder hanging from a crane to drop it on enemies or vehicles below, then hits the crane's counterweight with rockets until the whole crane crashes down.
On Operation Firestorm, players camping at the top of the largest tower can be burned out: go to its base and hit the purge valve control, and flames shoot up the tower. It is a return of the Battlefield 3 trick.
EA said in its Jul 30, 2026 community update that it planned "targeted" set-piece destruction for Season 5, the Vegas sign and dome, the Area 51 tower and the European Casino tower, and that environmental destruction controls for Portal are on its backlog (EA). For European Casino, EA's tip is not to drop the tower too early, and that Engineers' explosives bring it down fastest (EA, Nov 5, 2026).
Using destruction well
If the building you are in is coming down, keep moving. jackfrags found that standing still under falling rubble does more damage and can kill you, while sprinting through it lets you survive.
- Make your own door. Blowing a hole in a side wall beats walking through the door every defender is watching; MP1st's tips list using destruction among the habits that win games (MP1st, Oct 10, 2025).
- Take cover away. EA's guide says to use explosives to clear cover, and a camper on an upper floor is a tank shell away from losing it (EA).
- Know what holds. Hide behind metal frames and ground floors, not the light walls around them.
- Water counts too. Since Season 4 underwater explosions and waves are part of the naval maps, and bullet penetration of water depends on caliber (EA, Jul 17, 2026).
We think Battlefield 6's destruction is at its best on mid-sized infantry maps like Siege of Cairo, New Sobek City and Cairo Bazaar, where a point changes shape over a match and the rubble becomes new cover, and at its weakest as a spectacle: before Season 5 the game had no tower-sized collapse to match Battlefield 4's Siege of Shanghai. In our view the European Casino tower on Nov 10 is the real test of EA's "targeted" approach. If it changes how the map is played rather than just looking good, we expect more such set pieces on the 2027 maps; that is our prediction, see Predictions.
Frequently asked questions
Can you destroy every building in Battlefield 6?
No. Most light buildings, walls and cover break, often almost entirely, but metal frames, many ground floors and some structural walls do not. The system is state-based, with pre-scored sections.
Does Battlefield 6 have Levolution?
It has scripted set pieces that EA counts as targeted destruction: the Vegas Strip dome and sign, the Area 51 control tower, Operation Firestorm's tower fire and, from Nov 10, 2026, European Casino's collapsing tower, which EA's own guide calls Levolution.
Can bullets destroy walls?
Some, yes. Sustained gunfire breaks light walls, and EA lists it alongside vehicles and explosives as a way to destroy cover.
Is destruction better than Battlefield 4 or Bad Company 2?
Digital Foundry says Battlefield 6 is more densely destructible than the last few games but still behind Bad Company 2, "probably still the all-time champ."
Can you change destruction in Portal?
Not yet. EA has environmental destruction settings for Portal on its backlog, as of its Jul 30, 2026 update.
