Engineer

Engineer is Battlefield 6's vehicle class. It carries the Repair Tool, takes less explosive damage near friendly vehicles, handles SMGs best, and brings launchers, anti-vehicle mines, the EOD Bot and the Vehicle Supply Crate; its training paths are Anti-Armor and Combat Engineer.

Engineer is the class that kills vehicles and keeps your own ones running in Battlefield 6: EA calls it a close-range and explosives specialist whose launchers take down large structures and whose Repair Tool fixes tanks, helicopters and some gadgets (EA's Engineer page, Apr 9, 2026). It was the most played class across 2025, at 28% of picks in Battlefield 6 and REDSEC (EA, Dec 19, 2025). In his Oct 18, 2025 guide ItalianSpartacus calls it "the only class that can pop vehicles reliably," and stresses aiming at the rear and top. How it compares with the other classes is on Classes.

Signature set: Repair Tool, Mechanized Infantry and the SMG

Mechanized Infantry means less explosive damage while you are near a friendly vehicle, and enemies cannot take an allied vehicle whose crew have all stepped out, as long as you keep repairing it (EA). ItalianSpartacus shows the use: hop out, repair under fire, and nobody steals the tank while you work.

The Repair Tool heals allied vehicles and some gadgets, and it also damages enemy vehicles, gadgets and soldiers: if you are out of rockets and mines, you are not out of options. The Power Fix ability makes it work at 50% extra efficiency for 10 seconds. The SMG bonus is better hip-fire control only, not better aim down sights; in Closed Weapon playlists Engineer keeps SMGs plus carbines, DMRs and shotguns (SMGs).

Launchers

An Engineer carries one launcher at a time; EA does not allow two in one loadout. The starting one is the Auto-Guided Launcher, which ItalianSpartacus shows locking on and diving onto the tank's roof. Its three rockets alone will not kill a full-health tank, which is why the clip pairs it with both grenades, or switches to the unguided RPG for raw damage.

Launcher (EA's name) What it does
Auto-Guided Launcher Automatic top-down lock on vehicles; its rockets evade vehicle trackers longer.
Aim-Guided Launcher No lock: you steer the rocket. Extra damage to a vehicle's sides, top and rear.
Unguided Launcher Best against infantry, slower rocket, range-finding while aiming. Patch 1.3.3.0 raised the RPG-7V2's tank damage from 173-460 to 188-500 and helicopter damage from 1,035 to 1,125 (Jun 30, 2026).
Long-Range Launcher Heat-seeking, slow lock, hard hit; locks faster on targets marked by a Laser Designator or Tracer Dart. Since launch the MAS 148 Glaive cannot lock targets closer than 40 m.
Air-Defense Launcher Locks onto jets and helicopters after a short aim.
Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher The 9K38 Igla, added in Season 2 on Feb 17, 2026: re-locks onto aircraft that flare or leave range if you keep aiming.

Armored vehicles take more damage in the back and sides, so avoid the front where you can, and GameSpot's guide adds that a vehicle that drove a route once will likely drive it again: mine it. Update 2.1.1.0 made that rule sharper: a rear tank hit between 86 and 94 degrees now does 2.5 times the damage (2.1.1.0 notes, Oct 12, 2026). Which vehicle is which is on Tanks and Ground Vehicles, Helicopters and Jets.

More rockets come from a Support's Supply Bag: jackfrags sits on one at spawn and carries five RPG rockets instead of the usual count, enough to stay in a long tank fight.

Mines, grenades and the other gadgets

Mines start in the middle of the road and get better from there: hide them just off a curb so the curb blocks the driver's view, or around corners where a tank turns into them. Two mines destroy a tank, or one mine and a rocket, and they stay after you die. EA's rules since update 1.2.1.0, the Season 2 update of Feb 17, 2026, are six Anti-Tank Mines per player, despawning 180 seconds after the owner dies (1.2.1.0 notes, Feb 13, 2026).

Gadget What it does
Anti-Vehicle Mine Destroys vehicles from below, ignores Support's Intercept Systems, cannot sit too close to another friendly mine.
Acoustic Sensor AV Mine Hears a vehicle and fires a roof-strike projectile; Intercept Systems can stop it.
Tripwire Sensor AV Mine Fires when a vehicle crosses its sensor; placed on the ground or thrown onto a wall.
EOD Bot A remote robot that arms and disarms objectives, plants mines, destroys small explosives and carries a mini Repair Tool.
Vehicle Supply Crate Refills vehicle ammunition and cuts cooldowns, but repairs no health.

The Acoustic Sensor mine pops up and drops onto a tank's roof as it passes; ItalianSpartacus follows it with an RPG for an instant kill, and hides it in roadside rubble rather than the middle of the road, where it stands out.

Enemy mines are loot. jackfrags walks up to one as Engineer, holds interact, and adds it to his own stock. In a tracked vehicle, holding crouch makes the tank crawl, which rolls over enemy mines without setting them off and slips past acoustic sensors.

The Anti-Tank Grenade flies in a grenade arc, then deploys a parachute and drops onto the vehicle from above, so throw it over the tank, not at its side. The Mini Frag throws farther than a Frag with a smaller blast (EA).

Training paths: Anti-Armor and Combat Engineer

Both paths share the Power Fix ability; the levels are earned during the match.

Anti-Armor Combat Engineer
How to get it Open by default Engineer Class Assignment
Passive Extra Rockets Gadget Fortification: repairing a friendly gadget raises its maximum health for good
Level 1 Launcher Proficiency: faster launcher reloads Overheat Resistance
Level 2 Devastating Impact: vehicles you damage take longer to repair Vehicle Regeneration: a vehicle you sit in regenerates above its critical state
Plays like A tank hunter A tank crew's mechanic

Source: EA's Engineer page (Apr 9, 2026). EA confirmed these two path names in its Nov 18, 2025 roadmap.

ItalianSpartacus describes Devastating Impact as a 50% cut to the enemy's repairs, in the launch-era wording of the clip; EA's current page gives no number. Either way it is the perk that wins tank duels: one rocket on an enemy tank makes its pocket Engineer's repairs far weaker.

We think Anti-Armor is the better path for most players, and Combat Engineer is only worth unlocking if you drive. On foot, Combat Engineer's perks fix gadgets and overheating; in a tank, Vehicle Regeneration keeps you alive between repairs. In our view the class is the best one for a solo player who wants to change a match, because one Engineer with a good launcher and two mines decides who owns the roads on Mirak Valley or Railway to Golmud.

Engineer in REDSEC (Season 5)

From Season 5 on Oct 13, 2026, Engineer in the REDSEC battle royale has one four-level path and starts with the Repair Tool and the Aim-Guided Launcher; the M136 AT is aim-guided from the start of a round (2.1.1.0 notes):

  • Level 1: 33% more explosive resistance.
  • Level 2: 33% faster armor replating.
  • Level 3: Aim-Guided Launcher hits immobilize vehicles for 5 seconds.
  • Level 4: gadget resupply 10% faster per improvement, reset on death.

These are battle royale rules only; multiplayer Engineers keep Anti-Armor and Combat Engineer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Engineer signature gadget?

The Repair Tool, which repairs friendly vehicles and some gadgets and damages enemy vehicles, gadgets and soldiers.

Can an Engineer carry two rocket launchers?

No. EA's rules allow one launcher per loadout; the second gadget slot takes a mine, the EOD Bot or the Vehicle Supply Crate.

What is the best launcher against tanks?

The Unguided Launcher (RPG-7V2) does the most damage per hit after its June 30, 2026 buff, and the Aim-Guided Launcher does extra damage to a tank's sides, top and rear. The Auto-Guided Launcher is easiest but needs grenades or a second Engineer to finish a tank.

How many mines can an Engineer place?

Six Anti-Tank Mines per player since update 1.2.1.0 (Feb 17, 2026), and they despawn 180 seconds after the owner dies.

Can Engineers shoot down jets and helicopters?

Yes, with the Air-Defense Launcher or the Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher (9K38 Igla) added on Feb 17, 2026.
