Season 1

Season 1 ran from Oct 28, 2025 to Feb 17, 2026, the longest season so far after a four-week extension. Its phases Rogue Ops, California Resistance and Winter Offensive added Blackwell Fields, Eastwood and Ice Lock Empire State, and it launched the free battle royale REDSEC and Battlefield 6's first cosmetics backlash.

Season 1 was Battlefield 6's first season: it went live on Oct 28, 2025 at 15:00 UTC, 18 days after launch, together with the free-to-play battle royale REDSEC, and ran until Feb 17, 2026. It came in three phases, Rogue Ops (Oct 28), California Resistance (Nov 18) and Winter Offensive (Dec 9), then a four-week extension from Jan 20, when EA delayed Season 2. It added Blackwell Fields, Eastwood and an icy Empire State, and its skins started the game's first argument over cosmetics. All seasons are on Seasons.

Phase 1: Rogue Ops and REDSEC (Oct 28, 2025)

Update 1.1.1.0 went live at 09:00 UTC, and the season's content and battle pass unlocked at 15:00 UTC. Rogue Ops added Blackwell Fields, a recommissioned US air base in the California badlands; Strikepoint, a 4v4 mode with one life a round, one capture point and the first team to six rounds winning (Infantry Modes); the four-seat Traverser Mark 2 APC, which can serve as a spawn point; and three weapons, the SOR-300C carbine, the Mini Scout sniper rifle and the GGH-22 pistol. The patch also scaled weapon spread by damage, so weaker guns spread more.

The same afternoon, REDSEC launched: free to play, no base game needed, 100 players a match on Fort Lyndon, "our largest Battlefield map ever created", with the squad mode Gauntlet beside the battle royale. IGN's review found more fun in Gauntlet than in the battle royale itself. Its full story is on the REDSEC page; here, what matters is that one battle pass and one progression now served both games (Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro).

The first backlash

Season 1 opened to a rough week. REDSEC launched to "Mostly Negative" Steam reviews, with players angry that battle royale challenges counted toward Battlefield 6 progression and that there was no solo queue. Kotaku listed battle pass ads, the small Blackwell Fields map, Strikepoint and weekly challenges that pushed players into REDSEC (Oct 29, 2025), and PC Gamer reported Battlefield 6's own Steam reviews dropping to "Mixed".

The cosmetics drew the most anger. Fans who expected "realistic and grounded" soldiers called the new outfits "meme skins". The System Override skin's bright green accents were darkened after comparisons to a Monster Energy tie-in, and the all-blue "Wicked Grin" skin with a teeth mask was quietly removed that week without a studio statement.

The first battle pass

Season 1 set the pattern every later pass followed: a free track that holds every weapon, a premium pass at 1,100 BFC and Battlefield Pro at $24.99, the last with 25 tier skips, a 15% XP boost and 100-player persistent server hosting. Creator shockwavez summed it up on Oct 29, 2025: weapons and maps are not behind a paywall, and the paid tiers are cosmetics and XP. Its paths were Rogue Operations, Deniable Operations, Soldiers of Fortune and Pacific Ghosts, with seasonal paths for California Resistance and Ice Lock. How the pass works today is on Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro.

Phase 2: California Resistance (Nov 18, 2025)

Update 1.1.2.0 went live Nov 18 at 09:00 UTC with Eastwood, the limited-time Sabotage mode (attack or defend cargo; the team that destroys the most wins), the DB-12 pump shotgun, the M357 Trait eight-round revolver, and the Rorsch Mk-2 railgun and MP-RMG minigun as Battle Pickups, plus the Portal Sandbox. It put aim assist back to its open beta tuning, reduced spread on all weapons, fixed a 300 FPS cap on Nvidia cards and shrank the oversized UH-79 hitbox; VGC counted around 150 changes. REDSEC's Gauntlet gained Rodeo, a tank mission.

IGN's REDSEC review that season pointed at the battle royale's scale problem: its 100-player lobbies are only about 50% bigger than a 64-player All-Out Warfare match, but Fort Lyndon is far more than 50% bigger than a usual Battlefield 6 map, so fights spread thin.

Earlier that month EA had answered progression complaints: an overhaul of 90+ challenges on Nov 5 cut, for example, the Support 2 assignment from 200 revives to 60, and bots returned to Verified Portal experiences on Nov 6 with reduced XP. A free trial ran Nov 25 to Dec 2 through REDSEC. On Nov 11 the "Lead the Way" Pack, made with the National Ranger Association, went on sale; EA said no portion of its sales was donated.

Phase 3: Winter Offensive (Dec 9, 2025)

Update 1.1.3.0 brought winter to Empire State: Ice Lock, a limited-time visual update to the map, with Conquest and Domination variants in which a Freeze damages soldiers and blocks health regeneration until they sprint, use an Adrenaline Injector or reach a heat zone (Limited-Time Modes). The free Ice Climbing Axe sat at tier 11 of an 11-tier Bonus Path, which EA said is stronger than the Sledgehammer and Combat Knife. The patch doubled mouse sensitivity ranges, rebalanced Breakthrough vehicles on four maps and improved hit registration in close crowds.

The patch also changed things it should not have: EA reverted lost momentum on repeated jumps, Daily Challenge XP that had dropped from 5,000 to 3,500 and Conquest tickets showing 1,000 instead of 1,200, all by mistake. The REDSEC Elite Series ran Dec 10, 2025 to Jan 18, 2026 with over $1 million in prize money.

By January, IGN's Daily Fix (Jan 13, 2026) put the drop in player interest down to a lack of content updates, little communication from Battlefield Studios and "a disappointing end with season 1 Winter Offensive", alongside a controversy over alleged generative AI material. EA's totals for 2025 across both games were 1.7 billion matches and 383.5 million hours, with Engineer the most played class at 28%.

The extension (Jan 20 to Feb 17, 2026)

Season 1 was due to end Jan 20, 2026. Instead, Update 1.1.3.5 went live that day as the extension patch: jet cannons needed about 40% more hits against aircraft, knife attacks got faster, and a scope reticle color option arrived. The Frostfire Bonus Path opened on Jan 27, with 110 points earned only from weekly challenges, alongside Double XP weekends, daily login rewards and a Valentine's Day event. Battlefield Labs began testing Contaminated and the AH-6 Little Bird, both of which shipped in Season 2.

What we think

Looking back on Year 1 on Oct 10, 2026, Enders called both Season 1 maps, Blackwell Fields and Eastwood, "incredibly mediocre". We think Season 1's problem was not too little content but the wrong order of it. Blackwell Fields, Strikepoint and REDSEC all pointed away from the large combined-arms fights the launch maps had sold, and the bright skins arrived in the same week, so players read the season as a move toward a free-to-play shooter. The steady fixes that followed (aim assist, challenges, progression) show a studio that listened, but we think the four-week extension cost more than it saved: Season 2 then arrived with mid-sized maps, and the big remakes waited for Season 3.

Frequently asked questions

When did Battlefield 6 Season 1 start and end?

It started Oct 28, 2025, with content live at 15:00 UTC, and ended Feb 17, 2026, when Season 2 began after a four-week delay.

Did REDSEC come out with Season 1?

Yes. REDSEC launched on Oct 28, 2025 at 15:00 UTC, the same day as Season 1, and shares its battle pass.

Can you still get the Season 1 weapons?

Yes. From Season 2, the GGH-22, Mini Scout and SOR-300C unlock at Career Rank 20, and challenges were added for the M357 Trait and DB-12.

What was the Wicked Grin skin?

A bright all-blue Season 1 outfit with a teeth mask. It was removed within days after players said it broke Battlefield 6's promise of grounded cosmetics.
