Recon
Recon is Battlefield 6's scout and sniper class. It spots enemies just by aiming at them, carries the Motion Sensor, handles sniper rifles best, and brings the Recon Drone, Laser Designator, Tracer Dart, C4, mines, jammers and the Sniper Decoy; its training paths are Sniper and Spec Ops.
Recon is Battlefield 6's scout: EA says it reveals, conceals and damages, spotting with optics, sensors or drones and striking from behind the lines (EA's Recon page, Apr 9, 2026). It is the sniper class, but its biggest job is information: aiming at an enemy marks them for the whole team, and its gadgets paint vehicles so Engineers can lock on. ItalianSpartacus calls Recon "the king of spotting" in his Oct 17, 2025 guide, and says a Recon who spots before taking up a sniping position easily lands in the top five of the scoreboard. How it compares with the other classes is on Classes.

Signature set: Passive Spot, Motion Sensor and the sniper rifle
Passive Spot marks any enemy you aim at, in the world and on the minimap for your whole team. How fast it works depends on movement and zoom (EA). ItalianSpartacus breaks that down: a far target through a 1x sight may never spot, the same target through a 4x scope spots quickly, and sweeping the reticle fast spots nothing, so pan slowly and pause on each target. Every class can half-spot by looking; Recon's trait gives a full spot.
The Motion Sensor sends subsonic pulses that reveal nearby enemies in a small radius; EA notes it does not show which floor they are on. In the clip's launch-era test it covered about 10 meters in every direction, above and below as well, so one placed on a second floor catches movement on the floors around it. Put one on a point you defend, or at a choke point the enemy must cross.
ItalianSpartacus, in his Assault guide, rates the sniper rifle bonus the best signature perk of the four. The rifles themselves, their sweet spots and their patch history are on DMRs and Sniper Rifles; patch 1.3.3.0 on Jun 30, 2026 narrowed the bolt-action sweet spots (the L115's from 120-175 m to 100-133 m), and EA has promised a bolt-action review in 2027 (MP1st, Jun 26, 2026; EA, Oct 1, 2026).
UAV Overwatch
UAV Overwatch puts a UAV over a marked position that spots passively, and EA says it "becomes available late in a match" (EA). ItalianSpartacus found that only one can be up at a time: if a teammate's UAV is already flying, yours waits. In his test it lasted 60 seconds and revealed everything within about 100 meters, "the motion sensor times 10."
Gadgets
The marking gadgets are what make Recon a team class. GameSpot's guide shows the Laser Designator painting a vehicle so an Engineer's launcher locks on and tracks it, and the Tracer Dart doing the same while also marking soldiers. EA's own tip is the same: designate or dart a target to speed up launcher locks (EA Squad Tactics).
| Gadget | What it does |
|---|---|
| Recon Drone | Spots enemies, gadgets and vehicles; can carry demolition charges or hover to auto-spot. |
| Laser Designator | Binoculars that designate vehicles or map points for Engineers and air-to-ground missiles; can be placed and used remotely. Since Season 5 it needs fire held in line of sight. |
| Tracer Dart | Tracks and disrupts enemy gadgets and vehicles within a few dozen meters; a direct hit reveals a soldier. Since Season 5 it gives a brief, longer-lasting designation. |
| Demolition Charge | Detonated on command or by damage; one drops a light vehicle or wall, tanks and helicopters may need several. |
| Anti-Personnel Mine | A tripwire explosive for small doorways; crouched or prone players do not trigger it. |
| Sniper Decoy | Draws fire to reveal shooters and makes a fake scope glint. |
| Hardware Suppression System | The HTI-MK2, added Feb 17, 2026: counters up to three enemy gadgets per pulse, then recharges. |
| Handheld Jammer | Added Jun 9, 2026: disrupts enemy equipment in range; audible; carried or tossed. |

ItalianSpartacus rates the Recon Drone the most important gadget on the list. It has thermal vision, and he paces it: in Rush, one flight every time a sector falls or the team falls back, spotting everything in the next sector before anyone walks into it.
The drone can also shoot. jackfrags flies it near enemy mines and fires to blow them up, getting the kill if they explode under an enemy vehicle, and uses it to take out spawn beacons, other equipment and even a soldier on a mortar.
With C4, Recon is the only class besides Engineer that can kill a tank. A Spec Ops Recon who sneaks up on armor, or trades the drone's camera for a drone carrying charges, is a real threat to vehicles.
The Sniper Decoy looks like a sniper from the chest up and shows a glint. Enemies who fire at it reveal themselves for a counter-snipe, and lying near your own decoy hides your real glint behind its fake one. EA counts "successful Sniper Decoy baits" as a Recon XP action (EA progression guide).
The class throwables are the Throwable Proximity Detector, a thrown motion sensor that paints enemies on the minimap, and the Throwing Knife, which kills with a headshot and delays a body-hit target's healing (EA).
Training paths: Sniper and Spec Ops
Both paths share UAV Overwatch. Sniper improves what the class already does; Spec Ops turns it into a quiet mid-range flanker.
| Sniper | Spec Ops | |
|---|---|---|
| How to get it | Open by default | Recon Class Assignment |
| Passive | Enhanced Perception: wider, faster, longer auto-spotting | Stealth Tactics: quieter while crouched, prone and during takedowns |
| Level 1 | Target Acquired: enemies you damage are spotted in the world and on the minimap | Gadget Awareness: spots nearby enemy gadgets, off while sprinting |
| Level 2 | Confirmed Kill: enemies you kill with a sniper headshot cannot be revived | Low Profile: going prone clears combat state faster, shorter spotted time |
| Plays like | A long-range marksman | A sneaky spawn point near the enemy |
Source: EA's Recon page (Apr 9, 2026). ItalianSpartacus measured Enhanced Perception at 33% more distance in his launch-era test.
Spec Ops' Low Profile is the hidden gem: going prone clears your in-combat state quickly, which means your squad can spawn on you behind enemy lines. ItalianSpartacus compares it to Assault's Frontliner, a path that also makes you a spawn point, except that Spec Ops gets there by stealth instead of force.
We think Confirmed Kill is the single strongest perk any class has in Battlefield 6: a headshot that cannot be revived costs the enemy a ticket that no Support can save, which is why a good Recon on Conquest matters more than its kill count suggests. In our view the class is also underplayed as a spotter; most of its value comes before the first shot, which is why a 19% share of picks, steady from the beta through 2025, is about right for a team.
Recon in REDSEC (Season 5)
From Season 5 on Oct 13, 2026, Recon in the REDSEC battle royale lost its Drone Operator path and has one four-level path, starting with the Motion Sensor and the Handheld Jammer (2.1.1.0 notes, Oct 12, 2026):
- Level 1: enemies you damage are spotted.
- Level 2: a down spots enemies within 25 meters for 5 seconds.
- Level 3: the Jammer disrupts Redeploy Points and Mobile Redeploys and reveals who used them.
- Level 4: gadget resupply 10% faster per improvement, reset on death.
These are battle royale rules; multiplayer Recon keeps Sniper and Spec Ops.
Frequently asked questions
How does Recon spot enemies?
By aiming down sights at them. The Passive Spot trait marks them for the whole team; it works faster with more zoom and less movement. The Motion Sensor, drone, Proximity Detector and UAV spot as well.
Can Recon destroy tanks?
Yes, with the Demolition Charge (C4). One destroys a light vehicle; tanks and helicopters may need several.
What does the Laser Designator do?
It marks a vehicle or map point so Engineer launchers and air-to-ground missiles lock on faster. Since Season 5 you must hold fire in line of sight to keep the mark.
Which Recon training path is best?
Sniper for long-range play, mainly for Confirmed Kill. Spec Ops for players who push closer and want to be a stealthy spawn point.
When can I use UAV Overwatch?
Late in a match, per EA, and only one friendly UAV can fly at a time.
