Phase 1: Pacific Front and Naval Warfare (Jul 21, 2026)

Update 1.4.1.0 brought Naval Warfare. The 7.7m NSW RHIB, a four-seat boat, moved over from REDSEC, and the new RCB-90 armored patrol boat seats two, with a 120mm mortar, a 30mm autocannon and missiles. The boats and rules are on Naval Warfare and Boats.

Water itself changed. Battlefield's own Jul 17, 2026 deep dive explains the dynamic wave system: waves in enclosed waterways stay calm, making boats easier to handle but easier to hit, while open-ocean waves cut mobility and make aiming harder, can hide an approach and now and then deflect fire. Bullets also lose damage passing through water.

Tsuru Reef is a Pacific archipelago with a resort, a dormant volcano and open ocean, and EA said it is larger than Railway to Golmud, the previous record. Three weapons arrived: the EF88 bullpup assault rifle, the BROD 3 carbine and the VSSM, a suppressed DMR with an optional full-auto mode, along with the 1P86 LPVO (1.5x to 4.5x), a Canted Vertical Grip and a Hybrid Suppressor (Weapons, Attachments).

Balance in 1.4.1.0 cut the M320A1's cluster munitions from 6 submunitions to 3 and their maximum blast damage from 30 to 20, made sliding need a little more speed, and removed tanks, IFVs and vehicle keycards from Ranked Battle Royale, which started its Season 4 with a rank reset. Hotfix 1.4.1.5 on Aug 4 smoothed sniper aiming for non-Recon classes and sped up spawning in.

The season also changed the store: from Season 4, some past battle pass items may return to the store at least 3 months after their pass ends, while instant unlocks and Ultimate and Prestige items stay exclusive (Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro).

Phase 2: Top Gun (Aug 18, 2026)

Update 1.4.2.0 went live Aug 18 and brought back Wake Island, reimagined; the deep dive says it reworks the Battlefield V version, with each team's HQ a carrier off the island and a ship added in the middle as cover for boats. Tsuru Reef gained playable aircraft carriers, fully used only in Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a new take on Battlefield's Carrier Assault (Limited-Time Modes). Two two-seat jets joined, the F/A-81F and the swing-wing F-74A Seacat (Jets), along with the CJTF Helix squad unit and the Interdictor, the longest-range sniper in the game.

The event currency was Ace Medals, traded for 10 items ending with the "Ace Aviator" skin; the Helix Legacy and Helix Resolve bundles cost 2,400 BFC each. The event was due to end Sep 15, but its modes were extended through the end of Season 4. REDSEC got Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep, a jets-only mode limited to two-player squads from hotfix 1.4.2.5, and the crashed carrier USS Grant on Fort Lyndon.

Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode arrived through Battlefield Labs in the live game. Portal creators can add a pre-lobby screen where players sort themselves into teams and squads, with admin controls, and Spectator Mode works in private matches in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC (Portal and Server Browser).

Phase 3: Tidal Strike (Sep 15, 2026)

Update 1.4.3.0 brought Proximity Chat to battle royale as a Battlefield Labs test: voices are directional and muffled by walls and vehicles, up to 4 speakers can be heard at once, and it can be switched off. The Deep Six Collection Event awarded the Diver's (Royal Navy Dive) Knife; EA's patch notes give Sep 15 to Oct 12 and its event guide Sep 15 to 29. The Phantom Program was a REDSEC operation to find access-code fragments on Fort Lyndon, and a free trial with Double XP ran Sep 15 to 22.

Balance answered the new boats and jets. The RCB-90's health rose from 800 to 1000, the AH-6 minigun overheats about 33% faster and deals 50% less damage to boats, and the Interdictor's sweet-spot damage fell from 150 to 100 while its minimum rose from 62 to 80. REDSEC's data extraction dropped from 15 to 5 seconds, and the Ring of Fire now destroys vehicles and gadgets. Portal added King of the Hill and Domination as Verified Modes and put Wake Island in the SDK. Hotfix 1.4.3.5 followed on Sep 30.

The first anniversary

Battlefield 6 turned one on Oct 10, 2026, inside Season 4. A "Celebrate Year 1" login event gave one reward a day for 7 days, among them the DB-12 shotgun, the M121 A2 LMG and the VCR-2 rifle (weapons already in the game) and short XP boosts, claimable until Oct 13, "when Season 4 ends". MP1st reported fans calling the rewards weak. EA's own look back counted four seasons in Year 1, the returns of Railway to Golmud and Wake Island, and Naval Warfare.

Season 4 in numbers

Before the season, EA said multiplayer maps had grown from 9 at launch to 15 and weapons to 58, and that battle pass progression was about 2.5 times faster than in Season 1. On Jul 30 it said weapon sentiment in its surveys had risen 23 points from June to July 2026. Kotaku later counted the summer of Seasons 3 and 4 as the game's turnaround, while noting some players found Tsuru Reef too big.

What we think

Enders, in his Oct 10, 2026 look back at Year 1, called Season 4 "by far the roughest season", because the attack boat arrived in a state that needed several bug fixes. We think Season 4 is the season that best matched what Battlefield players asked for at launch: big water maps, carriers and a returning classic, after a year of complaints about small maps. Its weakness was the third phase, which brought no map, only a voice-chat test and a knife, and a Top Gun event that had to be stretched to fill the gap. We also think the boat changes in Tidal Strike (more health for the RCB-90, less minigun damage against it) show the boats arrived underpowered against helicopters. Today's maps are compared on Maps.
