Blackwell Fields
Blackwell Fields is a Battlefield 6 map set at a recommissioned US air base in the Southern California badlands, added with Season 1 on Oct 28, 2025. It has six Conquest points, land vehicles and aircraft, and was widely called the weakest new map; EA reworks it on Dec 8, 2026.
Blackwell Fields is the first map added to Battlefield 6 after launch: an All-Out Warfare map around a recommissioned American air base in the Southern California badlands, with military facilities and scattered homesteads under siege, released with Season 1 Rogue Ops on Oct 28, 2025. jackfrags counted six capture points in his first match at EA's preview and noticed first what everyone noticed: "It's very red, isn't it?" As of Nov 8, 2026 a reworked version is due with Season 5's Frozen Aces phase on Dec 8, 2026.

Where it is and how it is laid out
NATO's headquarters takes in the air base and its runway, and Pax Armata enters from the other side, as Westie described the map after EA's closed preview (Oct 22, 2025). Between them lies an unnamed stretch of rural California under a deep red sunset. Westie disliked the color grading strongly, and it remains the first thing people say about the map.
The lower ground is flat and dotted with oil wells; rolling hills rise toward the top of the map. In Westie's matches, the team that held the flags on the hills had the advantage, with snipers watching the flats below. Patches of fire burn on the hillsides, and they hurt you if you run through them, though they also give a little visual cover.
Points of interest are thin. jackfrags passed a car park full of trucks, a row of oddly shaped pipelines that break when shot, and a point built on a radio mast. He found the area by the runway "a bit more interesting" than the rest, and the air boundary close: "It's not that far, really."
Points and modes
EA split the map by mode in its Season 1 roadmap:
- Conquest uses the whole badlands, with six points (Conquest).
- Breakthrough and Strikepoint are played in and around the military depot. Breakthrough here was cut from 64 to 48 players in mid-November 2025 (Breakthrough). Strikepoint is the 4v4 round mode that launched alongside the map (Infantry Modes).
- Small modes such as Team Deathmatch and Domination sit in the scrapyard.
- The Season 1 free trial (Nov 25 to Dec 2, 2025) put it in Initiation Breakthrough, with bots, beside Siege of Cairo and Eastwood.
Vehicles and air play
Every vehicle type spawns here, jets included. Westie expected ground vehicles to die fast with so many explosives in infantry hands, and passed on vehicle players' view that jets do not fit: the map is small and the no-fly zone sits too close to its edge to set up a strafing run. Season 1 also brought the Traverser Mark 2 armored transport, a squad spawn point that helps nearby allies (Tanks and Ground Vehicles).
Helicopters and jets struggle to break line of sight because there is little elevation inside or outside the playable area. Tanks can sit on the far hills near their own gimme flag and see much of the map, which reminded Westie of Mirak Valley and New Sobek City.
Tips for each side
- Take the hills first. The higher flags give sightlines over the oil fields and the depot, and Westie saw them decide matches.
- Do not cross the flats alone. Kotaku found moving on foot a chore, with snipers and AA covering the open ground; ride a transport or move with smoke (Support).
- Use the fires. The burning patches block sight for a moment, but they damage you if you stand in them.
- Pilots: stay low behind the hills near your base and expect AA; there is not much room to turn (Jets, Helicopters).
- Snipers do well here; jackfrags tried the then-new Mini Scout on it (DMRs and Sniper Rifles).
Reception and the Frozen Aces rework
Players and press were hard on it. jackfrags said it "just feels a bit uninspired" with no unique selling point. Kotaku called it a "barren, bland oil field" that "feels overly cramped" the day after launch (Oct 29, 2025), and a year on called it "a complete dud": too open, too small and too boring (Oct 23, 2026).
Westie felt it was put together quickly and lacked the care of Siege of Cairo, Liberation Peak and Operation Firestorm, and he scored it a 5 to 6 out of 10.
EA has said a reworked Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City come with Frozen Aces on Dec 8, 2026. The Oct 21, 2026 community update lists the changes: "more separation between HQs", extra space along the edges for flanking, more terrain breaks, and more ways to reach rooftops and approach objectives. EA said some map problems can be fixed by reconfiguring vehicle spawners but these two need "more significant updates". See Season 5.
What we think
We think the rework targets the right problems. Every complaint above (flat ground, cramped air space, HQs that see each other, nowhere to flank) is on EA's list, and terrain breaks plus rooftop access should give infantry the cover the flats lack. We do not expect it to fix the map's identity: the red grade and the missing landmark are the other half of the criticism, and EA's list says nothing about them. Our prediction: after Dec 8, Blackwell Fields will play better but stay near the bottom of player polls, behind Eastwood, which shipped three weeks later and showed what a California map could be.

ConquestConquest is Battlefield 6's 64-player flag mode: two teams of 32 capture lettered objectives, and a team loses when its tickets (1,000 by EA's default) run out from deaths without revives and from the other side holding more flags. Holding every flag for a minute wins outright.
-
BreakthroughBreakthrough is Battlefield 6's attack-and-defend mode: attackers with a limited pool of lives must hold every flag of a sector at once to push the front line forward, and defenders with unlimited lives try to drain that pool. It launched at 64 players; since Nov 13, 2025 six maps run it at 48, with no EA statement.
-
Infantry ModesBattlefield 6's small infantry modes are Team Deathmatch (8v8, first to 100 kills), Squad Deathmatch (four squads of four, first to 50), Domination (8v8, first to 200 points), King of the Hill (8v8, one moving zone), the 4v4 one-life Strikepoint (out of rotation as of Nov 8, 2026) and the 8v8 Sabotage event mode.

Tanks and Ground VehiclesBattlefield 6's ground vehicles as of Season 5 (Nov 8, 2026) are the Main Battle Tank, the Infantry Fighting Vehicle, the Mobile Anti-Air, the Armored Transport, the Light Ground Transport, the quad bike, the dirt bike and the golf cart, with the M142 MRAS artillery truck due on Nov 10, 2026. Tanks take double damage from behind since Season 3, and 2.5 times from straight behind since Season 5. -
SupportSupport is Battlefield 6's medic and ammo class. It carries the Supply Bag, can revive any teammate, handles LMGs with no sprint penalty, and brings the Defibrillator, smoke, intercept systems, Deployable Cover and the Portable Mortar; its training paths are Combat Medic and Fire Support.

JetsBattlefield 6 has four jets as of Season 5 (Nov 8, 2026): the single-seat Attack Jet and Fighter Jet from launch, and the two-seat F/A-81F and F-74A Seacat added with Top Gun on Aug 18, 2026. Jet weapon customization for the launch jets is planned for Season 6.
