Season 2

Season 2 ran from Feb 17 to May 12, 2026, four weeks later than planned, in three phases, Extreme Measures, Nightfall and Hunter/Prey, set around a German mountain airbase, with the Contaminated and Hagental Base maps, VL-7 hallucinogenic smoke and the two-map Operation Augur.

Season 2 ran from Feb 17, 2026 at 12:00 UTC to May 12, 2026, built around a NATO airbase on a German mountainside and VL-7, a psychoactive smoke. It came in three phases, Extreme Measures (Feb 17), Nightfall (Mar 17) and Hunter/Prey (Apr 14), and added the maps Contaminated and Hagental Base and Operation Augur, which joins them. It arrived almost a month late: on Jan 13, 2026, EA moved it from Jan 20 to Feb 17. All seasons are on Seasons.

The delay

On Jan 13, 2026, EA extended Season 1 past its Jan 20 end and moved Season 2 to Feb 17, saying it wanted "extra time to further polish and refine Season 2" and was "reinforcing Battlefield Labs as the public preview". Engadget counted the delay as almost a month. PC Gamer called the reasons vague and argued that bigger maps were what players wanted, and Windows Central framed it as coming "as its player count falls". What filled the gap is on Season 1.

Phase 1: Extreme Measures (Feb 17, 2026)

Update 1.2.1.0 promised "over 240 gameplay improvements and quality-of-life fixes". The new map, Contaminated, is a European mountain airbase, and the VL-7 Strike limited-time mode fills areas with smoke that causes hallucinations but no damage. New weapons were the GRT-CPS DMR, VCR-2 assault rifle and M121 A2 LMG; new gadgets were the 9K38 IGLA air-defense launcher for Engineers and the HTI-MK2 Hardware Suppression System for Recon, which disables up to three gadgets a pulse; and the AH-6 Little Bird scout helicopter returned (Helicopters).

The patch cut the longest slide by 25%, made recoil compensation consistent, slowed the Mini Scout's bullets from 880 to 800 m/s, cut the range at which unsuppressed fire spots you from 75 m to 54 m and added Rush to Mirak Valley. In REDSEC, VL-7 became a squad call-in, squads had to loot masks and filters, and Gauntlet Altered State and Battle Royale Synthesis were the launch modes. Players who missed Season 1's guns got them back: the GGH-22, Mini Scout and SOR-300C unlock at Career Rank 20, with challenges for the M357 Trait and DB-12. Year of the Horse challenges ran Feb 17 to Mar 3.

Contaminated has small destruction events of its own: in jackfrags' Feb 12, 2026 look at the reveal, yellow rockfall areas can be shot to bring rock down on anyone below. The map was well received, and its airspace was expanded after launch. Principal game designer Florian Le Bihan said the season carried the first round of networking changes, with more work on time-to-death to come.

Phase 2: Nightfall (Mar 17, 2026)

Update 1.2.2.0 brought Hagental Base, an underground, infantry-only, close-quarters map, with the low-visibility Nightfall mode on it, a Nightfall Gauntlet in REDSEC, the Defense Testing Complex 3 point of interest on Fort Lyndon, two two-seat dirt bikes, the CZ3A1 SMG and the vz. 61 sidearm. It also rebuilt progression: an XP curve about twice as fast in early ranks and 15% faster overall, sidearm ranks needing 60% less XP, and camos at mastery ranks 5, 15 and 30 instead of 20, 30 and 40 (Progression and Unlocks). Anti-tank mines were capped at six per player.

A Battle Royale Solos test ran in the live game from Mar 6 to Mar 9, before Solos launched in Season 3, and a Red Bull Supermoto Gauntlet raced dirt bikes across Fort Lyndon from the end of March. A free trial ran Mar 17 to 24.

Phase 3: Hunter/Prey (Apr 14, 2026)

Update 1.2.3.0 added Operation Augur, a limited-time mode in which NATO attacks Pax Armata through four sectors of Contaminated, then four of Hagental Base, with vehicles disabled in the tunnels (Limited-Time Modes). It also brought the LTV, a four-seat NATO vehicle that heals, resupplies and serves as a spawn, and the Ripper 14" machete, earned through the Hunter/Prey pass (the roadmap had called it the "KAPOK 14" Machete").

The Defibrillator was reworked: a full charge takes 1 second instead of 0.65, it holds 3 charges and revives with 50 to 100 health by charge (Support). The Heavy Rotary Cannon fell from 1,000 to 800 rounds a minute, and battle royale kill and assist scores rose 50%. The last Season 2 patch, 1.2.3.5 on May 5, fixed stance desync that let players die behind cover. EA said Operation Augur will return in a future season.

The 2026 roadmap

Mid-season, on Apr 16, EA published its roadmap for the rest of 2026: Railway to Golmud, Cairo Bazaar, Ranked and Solos battle royale for Season 3; Tsuru Reef and Wake Island with aircraft carriers for Season 4; three maps for Season 5; and the Server Browser, Platoons, Proximity Chat and reworks of New Sobek City and Blackwell Fields. By Nov 8, 2026, all of it had shipped or been dated except Platoons, now delayed to 2027 (Roadmap and Season 6).

What we think

Reacting to the reveal on Feb 12, 2026, jackfrags said two maps were not enough and that he wanted three or four a season, noting that neither looked like a big sandbox map. We think Season 2 is the season that bought Battlefield 6 time. It arrived late and under pressure, during the March layoffs at Battlefield Studios that Windows Central tied to a slumping player count, and its maps were mid-sized rather than the large ones players asked for. But its April roadmap, which promised Golmud and Wake Island, was the most important thing it shipped, and the faster XP curve fixed the slow progression of launch. Enders, looking back on Year 1, said Season 2's two maps "stepped it up quite a bit" over Season 1's. Operation Augur is, in our view, the best idea of the season: two maps joined into one push, which Season 5's Operation High Roller now repeats.
