Tsuru Reef
Tsuru Reef is Battlefield 6's largest map, a fictional Japanese island chain in the Pacific built for Naval Warfare and added on Jul 21, 2026 as the 16th map with Season 4. Six islands with a resort, an air base, a port and a dormant volcano are joined by shallow water and bridges, and two playable carriers were added for Carrier Strike.
Tsuru Reef is Battlefield 6's biggest map: a fictional Japanese island chain in the Pacific and "the largest Battlefield 6 map yet", built around the return of Naval Warfare and added on Jul 21, 2026 as the 16th map, with Season 4. EA describes a luxury resort, tropical vegetation, cliffs, a dormant volcano and open ocean, at a NATO base run jointly with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. jackfrags counted nine Conquest flags at EA's preview: "It's a huge map, isn't it?" Since Aug 18, 2026 it also has playable aircraft carriers for Top Gun: Carrier Strike. Facts are as of Nov 8, 2026.

Where it is and how it is laid out
EA's developer map guide (Jul 20, 2026) lays out six islands joined by bridges and shallow water:
| Island | Points and features |
|---|---|
| Yumeji Island | The Ikoi Resort in the middle of the chain, inspired by Battlefield 4's Hainan Resort, with pools, villas and hotel rooms |
| Kaze Island | Mifune Landing (an art installation nodding to Japan's Setouchi Triennale) and Tsuru Gate; the central island, whose control opens land-bridge routes to the others |
| Dusk Island | Moon Shore and Sunrise Harbor, a U-shaped harbor for naval vehicles |
| Mist Island | Tsuru Air Base, with a landing strip, and Tsuru Port |
| Two smaller islands | The NATO and Pax Armata HQs |
Around them lie Hitode Lagoon, between Dusk Island and the resort, with a cliff for long-range fights; Crag Arch facing the resort; unnamed islets; and Mt. Hoshizora, a dormant volcano to the east that is not a capture point. EA's designers named Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm as their benchmark. Some points are captured straight from a boat, while others are infantry fights backed by naval fire, and in Conquest Tsuru Air Base is easier for NATO to reach.
The resort will be familiar to Battlefield 4 players. jackfrags found its hotel laid out like Hainan Resort's, with a side you can blow out as in 2013, but the old elevators are now rappel lines that get you up much faster. Nearby is a fort with a couple of warehouses.
The hotel's upper floors are a strong sniper spot. jackfrags went looking for an old Battlefield 4 easter egg, a ship offshore that exploded when shot from one corner, and found no ship to shoot.
Naval Warfare and vehicles
Tsuru Reef launched Naval Warfare in Battlefield 6: oceans with waves, wakes behind boats, buoyant gadgets, underwater explosions, bullets that lose penetration by caliber when they hit water, and drag-and-revive in the water. The two boats are the 7.7m NSW RHIB, a fast four-seat transport with a machine gun brought over from REDSEC, and the RCB-90, a two-seat armored patrol boat with a 30 mm autocannon and missiles for the driver and a 120 mm mortar for the gunner (Naval Warfare and Boats). Helicopters and jets fly over all of it, and pilots can land on the air base strip to repair (Helicopters, Jets).
jackfrags tried the RCB-90 first: an explosive main cannon, missiles, remote-controlled torpedoes, a mortar run by a gunner, and a ramp that drops on shore. The waves impressed him most, with the boat crashing through them.
A boat can capture points from the water, the sound changes when you dive, and the boat can drop sea mines behind it.
The runway is real: jackfrags landed a jet on the air base strip and took off again, something he had never done in Battlefield 6.
His verdict on the attack boat was "a bit of a glass cannon": powerful, with anti-everything options, but fragile, so sticking to the outer edges of the map may be its best use.
Carriers and Carrier Strike
The map was expanded mid-season with two playable carriers, NATO's USS Grant and Pax Armata's PXS Condor, which are fully used only in Top Gun: Carrier Strike (Aug 18, 2026). EA's mode guide (Aug 13, 2026) sets it as 32 against 32 in one 30-minute round: five SSM batteries spread "like Conquest flags" each fire at the enemy carrier every 15 seconds, holding most of them switches on automatic anti-air, and at 50% hull the carrier's M-COM rooms open to attackers coming from the water. Lose both M-COMs and you lose at once. It reworks Battlefield 4's Carrier Assault (Limited-Time Modes).
jackfrags played it on launch day: both teams spawn on their carrier, take the missile batteries, and watch each carrier's health at the top of the screen. Torpedoes and rockets chip the enemy hull too.
When the carrier opens, attackers get inside to a fully modeled interior and arm the first M-COM, whose long fuse gives defenders time to disarm it; the second sits in the engine room. His team still lost: the enemy finished their carrier with explosives before reaching the M-COM.
Destruction
The resort's main building and villas can be torn down "by Patrol Boat, aircraft, or Engineer's Gadget", opening sightlines and paths, and the air base's buildings can be knocked down to take away high perches (Destruction).
Tips for each side
EA's top five:
- Island-hop by boat, especially out of your HQ.
- Dive under water and use the waves as cover when you are not in a vehicle.
- Land aircraft on the air base strip to repair or to break an enemy's lock.
- In Conquest, hold the central island (Kaze) to reach the others first.
- Use Mt. Hoshizora and the unnamed islets as safe spots for a deploy beacon between objectives (Recon).
Reception
Players came back for it. jackfrags thought it played better in Conquest than in Escalation, which squeezes it down to three points, and wished the bridges could be destroyed. Kotaku's one-year review said Tsuru Reef drew back players disappointed by earlier updates, though some found it "too big" (Oct 23, 2026).
What we think
We think Tsuru Reef is the most ambitious map in Battlefield 6 and its least forgiving. Its size is the point, since Naval Warfare needs open sea, but we think nine flags spread across six islands leave too many points quiet in a 64-player match, which is the "too big" complaint. We expect EA to add smaller combat zones of it for Conquest, centered on Kaze and the resort, before it builds another naval map; that would keep the boats and lose the long empty crossings.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tsuru Reef the biggest map in Battlefield 6?
Yes, as of Nov 8, 2026. EA called it the largest Battlefield 6 map, bigger than Railway to Golmud.
Is Tsuru Reef a real place?
No. It is a fictional Japanese island chain; EA says Japanese and Asian culture experts advised on it.
What is Naval Warfare?
Boat combat in multiplayer, which returned with Tsuru Reef on Jul 21, 2026: the RHIB, the RCB-90 patrol boat, waves and water combat. See Naval Warfare and Boats.
Where are the aircraft carriers?
Off the island chain since Aug 18, 2026: the USS Grant (NATO) and PXS Condor (Pax Armata), used in Top Gun: Carrier Strike.
What is the volcano?
Mt. Hoshizora, a dormant volcano east of the islands. It is not a capture point, but EA suggests it as a safe place for a deploy beacon.
