Area 51
Area 51 is a Battlefield 6 map at the secret Nevada base, added on Oct 13, 2026 with Season 5 Siege of Vegas. Tanks, helicopters, jets and a dirt bike fight on the surface while infantry fight through tunnels and labs below, around a crater, a crashed aircraft, climate hangars and a control tower that can be brought down.
Area 51 is Battlefield 6's two-level map at the Nevada base: a military base on a dry lakebed ringed by mountains, over a hidden underground facility, added on Oct 13, 2026 with Season 5 Siege of Vegas. Tanks, helicopters and jets fight on the surface while infantry fight through tunnels, labs and research spaces below, and the Air Traffic Control tower can be brought down. "Most people have heard of Area 51. Very few know what's supposed to be inside," EA's guide begins. jackfrags counted nine Conquest objectives at EA's preview and compared its size and layout to Battlefield 4's Silk Road: a big map for tanks. Facts are as of Nov 8, 2026.

Where it is and how it is laid out
The team split the map in two: vehicles and air above ground, infantry below, with the levels kept connected by the flow of the match. Playtesters praised the scale, which led to more air routes through the mountains, and the underground earned praise for fast fights because its objectives sit close together. EA's 2.1.1.0 notes sum it up as surface combat, underground tunnels, a dirt bike, a jet and an Air Traffic Control tower.
The underground is "a massive subterranean area", blown open from above. jackfrags followed a giant tunnel past labs such as Lab P7 and empty containment tubes, then found a quick way back up to the surface.
The Crater is a huge, detailed area, and from its edge you get a sense of the whole map's scale, with jets overhead. The surface reminded him of Modern Warfare 2's Afghan, and the Crash Site of Call of Duty 4's Crash.
The areas
| Area | What EA says |
|---|---|
| The Comms Area | A hilltop with a comms building and parking lot; strong sightlines for infantry, air fights overhead |
| Crash Site | A downed aircraft across a road, a major vehicle battleground; nearby hangars give infantry cover to fight armor |
| Helipad | Built into the mountainside as an overwatch post, with anti-air options |
| The Crater | The heart of the infantry fight: three objectives in a network of tunnels, garages, abandoned labs and defenses, exposed by a massive impact |
| Aircraft Control Tower | Starts as a sniper nest over much of the map; bring it down and the fight moves to the rubble |
| Hot Climate Testing Hangar | Infantry on a central platform against armor circling the objective |
| Cold Climate Testing Hangar | Infantry-heavy, built around a test facility with experimental aircraft |
Vehicles
Tanks, armored vehicles, attack helicopters and jets all spawn, and a dirt bike runs the surface roads (Vehicles, Jets). One attack helicopter spawns on the high ground with an AA gun right beside it, which jackfrags expected players to camp. He also flew a helicopter straight into the tunnel to attack a capture point, which works if you are careful. EA advises pilots to use the mountains to maneuver and Engineers to slow armored pushes (Engineer). The Helipad's anti-air and Season 5's anti-air buffs make low passes over the base costly.
Destruction and the tower
The control tower is the map's big event: it begins as the best sniper perch on the map, and "bringing it down" will "completely change the fight". There is no obvious weak spot: jackfrags looked for structural pillars and found nothing inside, and only brought it down when much of the server opened fire on it, with "a lot of smoke at the bottom" as it fell. The crater and the crash site are wreckage before the round starts (Destruction).
The dogfights over the base are "insane", in his word, and the enemy had two attack helicopters up at once. We think the moment the tower falls, with every eye on it, is a good time to move on its objective.
Tips for each side
From EA's guide:
- Recon: use the towers and ridgelines to support several objectives at once (Recon).
- Engineers: hold key points against armor.
- Pilots: stay low against the mountains.
- Take the Control Tower early, or bring it down if the enemy holds it.
- Keep pressure on the underground objectives to get a foothold in the center.
Dead Space: Convergence
The Battlefield x Dead Space: Convergence event started on Oct 20, 2026 with Marker Incursion, a 16-player PvE mode against Marked Soldiers and Necromorphs beneath Area 51. EA's notes and community update give Nov 10, 2026 as its end. See Limited-Time Modes and Season 5.
Reception
Area 51 was the praised half of Season 5's launch: Kotaku reported the map being praised even as paid cosmetics drew criticism (Oct 15, 2026), and its one-year review called both Season 5 maps "big hits" (Oct 23, 2026).
What we think
We think Area 51 is the best large map Battlefield 6 has made from scratch. It solves the problem that sank Blackwell Fields by stacking the infantry map under the vehicle map instead of spreading both across the same flat ground. We expect the underground to be reused for more PvE after Dead Space, and we predict EA will hide more secrets in it for future events, since a map named Area 51 is the obvious place for them.
Frequently asked questions
When was Area 51 added?
On Oct 13, 2026, with Season 5 Siege of Vegas.
Does Area 51 have jets?
Yes. It has jets, helicopters, tanks and a dirt bike.
Can you destroy the control tower?
Yes. The Aircraft Control Tower can be brought down, which turns the fight there into a battle in the rubble.
Is there an underground part?
Yes. Below the base is a hidden facility of tunnels, labs and research spaces where the infantry fight happens, centered on The Crater's three objectives.
Is the Dead Space mode on Area 51?
Yes. Marker Incursion, the 16-player PvE mode of the Convergence event, plays beneath Area 51 until Nov 10, 2026.
