Wake Island

Wake Island is Battlefield 6's version of the series' oldest map, a horseshoe-shaped Pacific atoll added on Aug 18, 2026 with Season 4's Top Gun phase as the 17th map. It has seven points of interest, a new shipwreck in the lagoon, tunnels and ziplines, boats, jets and offshore carriers.

Wake Island is back: Battlefield 6's 17th map is a horseshoe-shaped atoll in the Pacific, added on Aug 18, 2026 with Season 4's Top Gun phase, 24 years after it first appeared in Battlefield 1942. This version is built on Battlefield V's, but with Naval Warfare: boats fight across a shallow lagoon where a wrecked container ship now sits, and both sides fly jets from offshore aircraft carriers. jackfrags spawned on his team's carrier deck in his preview match with the island ahead and the enemy carrier in view beyond it. Facts are as of Nov 8, 2026.

Quick facts

Added Season 4 Top Gun, Aug 18, 2026 (Update 1.4.2.0)
Map number 17th
First appeared Battlefield 1942 (2002)
Base version Battlefield V's Wake Island
New point Shipwreck of the MV Cetus
Vehicles Tanks, boats (RHIB, RCB-90), helicopters, jets, carriers offshore
Modes named by EA Conquest, Breakthrough, Escalation
Breakthrough Two objectives per sector at most

Where it is and how it is laid out

The island is now a fortress, as Westie put it after the reveal trailer: buildings and gun emplacements everywhere, a barracks, a weather station that recalls Battlefield 4's Paracel Storm, and a shallow lagoon in the middle with a grounded container ship for infantry to fight over while attack boats and RHIBs circle it.

EA's developer map guide (Aug 11, 2026) explains the biggest change: older versions left open water in the middle, which favored snipers and discouraged boats, so this one puts land and the shipwreck there. Bridges link the islands, and an underground tunnel network connects several points, including one big enough for vehicles between the depot and Hanger One.

In EA's preview footage jackfrags saw a new capture point in the middle, "I don't think we've ever had that on any of the previous versions", a gritty look like Battlefield 3's version, and Battlefield V's World War II bunkers, stocked with ammunition that blows up.

After playing it, he called it "kind of like a mix between the BF5 and BF3 version", and very cinematic, with the new wave effects on the lagoon.

The seven points of interest

Point What EA says
Taussig Radar Station A tower on a hill in the northwest, usually the objective; high ground for defenders, but the tower "can be shelled by explosives easily"; tunnels below for close quarters
Heel Point Barracks Three buildings; the ground between them is the main capture area in All-Out Warfare; they can be leveled for rubble cover; the tunnels start here
Hanger One The main hangar and airstrip near the center; armor can drive through the hangar
Ammunition and Ordnance Depot Six ammo structures that explode, with an objective in the danger zone in some modes; bunkers and raised ground in the southwest for boat flanks
True Energy Hydrocarbons Fuel Storage Two oil silos, the objective usually in the middle, with sightlines to the shipwreck
Toyoshima Docks The port; its capture area reaches into the water
Shipwreck of the MV Cetus New; one land route from Hanger One plus ziplines and waterways; a working AA gun on the bridge hits aircraft and boats

Points by mode

  • Conquest uses all seven, and the docks, fuel storage and shipwreck can be captured from the water (Conquest).
  • Breakthrough caps each sector at two objectives, because three was "too challenging for the attackers" in playtests (Breakthrough).
  • Escalation is the third mode EA names (Escalation).
  • Top Gun: Carrier Strike came with Wake but plays on Tsuru Reef; see Limited-Time Modes.

The Top Gun phase also brought the two-seat jets, the F/A-81F and the swing-wing F-74A Seacat, and Westie saw them on the Conquest version of Wake. He expected them to be the first jets in Battlefield 6 with real loadouts, and a second seat lets a friend who does not fly handle the weapons (Jets).

The loadout arrived on the multirole jet: jackfrags found a choice of cannon ammo, guided missiles, flares, cluster bombs or heavy rockets for the pilot, and air-to-air missiles, a jammer, optically guided missiles or a penetration bomb for the second seat. The Seacat had no loadout options in that build.

Vehicles and Naval Warfare

Westie's view was that Golmud gave Battlefield 6 a ground war and Tsuru Reef a sea and air war, and Wake combines them: helicopters, jets, tanks and infantry across land, air and water. Boats are the 7.7m NSW RHIB and the RCB-90 patrol boat from Season 4's Naval Warfare, which also added waves, wakes and revives in the water. Each side's HQ is an aircraft carrier offshore (Naval Warfare and Boats).

Destruction and set pieces

The ammo bunkers are as explosive as ever: jackfrags set one off and got "mini nukes everywhere", as in the Battlefield V version. A small air traffic control tower nearby is a good sniper spot.

  • The depot's ammo stores blow up, killing anyone near them (Destruction).
  • Barracks and other buildings come down to open paths or make rubble cover.
  • The radar tower can be shelled; the MV Cetus has ziplines and a usable AA gun.
  • EA cut bushes and rocks from earlier playtests, which gave too much cover, and sculpted the terrain instead.

The memorial plaque is back near the carrier deployment, now listing every Battlefield game with Battlefield 6 at the end. jackfrags then took a boat to the port, which he likened to the Battlefield 3 version, past tunnels he used for a C4 trap.

Escalation's long ziplines

jackfrags liked the new middle point, which you can zipline across to. In Escalation the map gets "the world's biggest zip lines": one from the carrier to a tower and a second all the way to the island, useful when transport is short (Escalation).

Tips for each side

EA's five tips:

  • Get around by boat or zipline, especially to and from the shipwreck.
  • Use tactical destruction to open your own paths.
  • Fight the tunnels and the gaps between buildings with SMGs and carbines (SMGs, Assault Rifles and Carbines).
  • Use bridges and tunnels to surprise the enemy.
  • Learn from experienced players, which EA points to its Discord for.

History: Wake Island in every Battlefield

EA's guide traces it from Battlefield 1942 (2002), a sandbox for front-line fights, through Battlefield 2's sharper vehicle combat, Battlefield 1943's fight over the airstrip, Battlefield 3's Back to Karkand version with new destruction, and Battlefield V's, which pushed fidelity and served as the base for Battlefield 6. EA's year-one look back listed the return of Wake Island and Railway to Golmud among Year 1's highlights, and Kotaku called it an "emergency button" for exciting players (Oct 23, 2026). It was added to the Portal SDK in Update 1.4.3.0 on Sep 15, 2026. See Season 4 and Battlefield Series.

What we think

We think putting the shipwreck in the middle is the best fix any Battlefield has made to Wake Island. The old open lagoon was a sniper's gallery that boats avoided; now the middle is a point worth taking and the water is a road to it. We think the two-objective Breakthrough sectors are right for an island where attackers come by boat. Our prediction: Wake Island will be the map Battlefield 6 brings back in every major event, as earlier games did, and the next Pacific map will reuse the shipwreck idea.
